Stede Quarter questions

Is Stede Quarter close to London?

Roughly 42 miles from the centre of London, and we cover it as standard.

Is Stede Quarter too small for a hog roast?

Not at all. We cater in villages and hamlets as well as towns. Tell us about lanes, gates and the ground.

Do you need power or water?

Cooking is gas-fired, so no mains power is needed for the roast. Power can help with lighting after dark.

Do you cover Stede Quarter?

Yes. We cover London and the South East, including Stede Quarter and Kent. Tell us the venue and we’ll quote.

Do you provide china?

Plates come as standard. China crockery is available on request and quoted separately.

How long does a hog roast take to cook?

It depends on the size of the hog and the weather, but it is several hours. You’ll know our arrival time in advance.

Do you do charity events?

Let us know your plans, and we will suggest options.

How much room do you need?

A level, open area outdoors with room for the roaster, a gazebo and a carving table, well clear of walls, tents and branches. We’ll check it with you before booking.

How it works

A typical booking goes like this: we arrive, set up under cover and start roasting, the roast cooks gently through the day, and we carve and serve at the agreed time. At midsummer, events in Stede Quarter stay light until about 9:15pm, so evening trading generally finishes in daylight in high summer. For winter events, dark by about 3:50pm, the pitch needs lighting.

  1. Organisers send us the event details.
  2. We confirm the pitch and send a price.
  3. We set up early on the pitch.
  4. We carve to order through the day.
  5. We pack down and take our waste.

How to prepare

  • Confirm numbers ahead of the day
  • Ensure the cooking area is away from walls, tents and trees
  • Collect dietary needs and allergies in advance

Should I cook it myself?

We also hire out the hog roast machine for confident cooks. You do the roasting and carving; we’ll explain what’s supplied and how it works when we quote.

Buying in a cold buffet is another option, but hot, freshly carved roast pork is a different experience.
