Hog roast hire in Abbotsford

Hog roast hire in Abbotsford, slow-roasted on site

Hog roast hire takes the cooking off your hands. We get there early, put up the cover and roast for hours, then carve and serve at the time you choose. Typical bookings include club events and presentations and milestone birthdays, serving hog roast rolls, salads and spit-roast lamb.

In a hamlet or village like Abbotsford, a farmyard or a neighbour’s field can make a good cooking spot. Gates, verges and soft ground are worth mentioning when you enquire. Everything we need to roast, carve and serve comes with us, and we leave the spot tidy when we go.

DIY versus a catered hog roast

You could roast a hog yourself, but it is a long day’s work, from setting up and lighting the roaster to carving. With us catering, you get to be a host, not a cook.

A barbecue is the other obvious choice, but someone has to stand at the grill all day. With a hog roast, one roast feeds everyone at once.

Planning the cooking spot

The right spot for the roaster makes everything easier. Look for:

  • A step-free route to wheel the equipment in
  • A level, open spot outdoors for the roaster
  • Nothing overhead that could catch the heat

If you’re unsure, send a photo of the space and the way in, and we will say what we think.

From the roaster

  • Apple sauce
  • Spit-roast lamb
  • Stuffing
  • Salads
  • Halloumi skewers (V)
  • Rotisserie chicken
  • Coleslaw
  • Vegan burger or sausage (Ve)
  • Crackling
  • New potatoes
  • Roast or jacket potatoes
  • Hog roast rolls

Step by step

On the day, we position the roaster under cover and get the hog cooking. From there it cooks low and slow for hours, worked back from your serving time. Light matters for a long roast: around Abbotsford, it stays light until about 9:20pm at midsummer, while in December the light goes at about 3:55pm.

  1. First, you send us your date, address, numbers and serving time.
  2. You get a check on the date and the spot, and a quote.
  3. We arrive well ahead, put the cover up and get the hog roasting.
  4. Our chef carves to order and our staff serve at the agreed time.
  5. Afterwards we clear up and leave the spot tidy.

Before we arrive

  • Check there’s nothing overhead or close by that could catch the heat
  • Send final numbers in good time
  • Plan a step-free way in for the equipment

Your questions about a hog roast in Abbotsford

Can you do a hog roast at a venue in the South Downs National Park?

Yes, though some venues in protected landscapes have extra rules for caterers; ask your venue. We’ll work to whatever the site needs.

Is Abbotsford too small for a hog roast?

No, we come to small places too. Let us know about access and the cooking spot.

Can you cater in Abbotsford?

Yes. We cover London and the South East, Abbotsford and the rest of West Sussex included. Send us the address for a quote.

Is mains power needed?

The roaster runs on gas, so we do not need mains power to cook. Power can help with lighting after dark.

What space does the roaster need?

Enough level ground outdoors for the roaster and a serving table under cover, and a way to wheel everything in. Send us a picture if you’re unsure.

Can the hog roast be cooked indoors?

The roaster always stays outside, under cover, away from buildings and marquee walls. Serving inside is often possible, with the venue’s agreement.

What about guests who don’t eat pork?

The menu has lamb, chicken, vegetarian and vegan options. We don’t provide halal meat.

Can we just hire the roaster?

We do, if you are happy to roast and carve yourself. Ask and we’ll talk you through it.

About the food

Vegan burger or sausage (Ve)

For vegans, there’s a vegan burger or sausage in a roll, so everyone has something hot.

Crackling

The skin crisps up over the hours of roasting, and there is a piece for everyone who wants it.

Looking after everyone

You will get allergen information for everything we serve. To help:

  • Ask for gluten-free rolls if anyone needs them
  • Ask about allergies when you send invitations
  • Remember that stuffing typically contains gluten, so ask for the allergen list
  • Give us numbers for vegetarians and vegans so we bring enough halloumi skewers and vegan burgers or sausages

If timings shift, tell us: we can hold the roast for a while.

Add lamb or chicken for a second roast.

A hog roast or other catering?

Next to a street-food van, a hog roast feeds a crowd quickly from one roast. UK price guides vary widely: roughly £10 a head for a simple roll, rising past £20 with more included. We quote every event individually, with everything listed.

What you get with us

  • Carved to order by a chef
  • Slow-roasted at your venue, not reheated
  • All the equipment comes with us
  • A choice of salads and potatoes

See our pricing and the cost guide.

For planners, venues and organisers

Organisers may ask for documents such as a risk assessment or gas safety information. Let us know what your event requires and we’ll confirm what we can provide.

Many venues set rules for outside caterers, from approved lists to where a gas roaster can go. Check early, and tell us what they ask for.

Why choose hog roast hire in Abbotsford?
