A hog roast near Challock
How our hog roast hire works in Challock
Hiring a hog roast means a whole hog cooked slowly on site, over several hours, outdoors under cover. Then our chef carves it and the team serves it in rolls with stuffing, apple sauce and a piece of crackling. Whether it is garden parties and barbecues and clubhouse events, we can cook crackling, spit-roast lamb and rotisserie chicken.
Somewhere like Challock, a yard or firm field frequently works. Mention gates and soft ground when you get in touch. Tell us about dietary needs and allergies when you enquire, and we’ll give you the allergen information for every dish.
Prices and what affects them
We do not use a fixed price list, since every event is different. What matters most:
- The date and time of year
- The menu and extras such as lamb or chicken
- Whether you want china
- How easy it is to reach the spot
UK price guides vary widely: roughly £10 a head for a simple roll, rising past £20 with more included. Every event gets its own quote, with everything listed.
What we need to know
To check the date and the space, we will need:
- Allergies we should know about
- An estimate of numbers
- The address or postcode
- Rules from the venue or landowner
We price every booking individually, based on numbers, menu, timings and distance. Tell us about your event for a quote: use our quote form.
Planning for dietary needs
A little planning helps everyone eat safely. Here are a few tips:
- Remember that stuffing usually contains gluten, so check the allergen information
- Count anyone who doesn’t eat pork, so we can bring lamb, chicken or vegetarian options
- Ask us to keep the vegetarian food separate and labelled
- Put the menu on the invitation
We bring the cover, the carving table and the serving kit, so all you need is the space.
A second roast, lamb or chicken, gives people a choice.

Challock questions
What’s the nearest station to Challock?
The closest is Wye station, roughly 3.3 miles away.
Can you cater after a service at Church of St Cosmas and St Damian?
Yes, at a home, hall or venue nearby with an outdoor spot for the roaster. Food is typically served at the reception venue rather than the church. Send us the address.
Do you serve the food?
We carve and serve for you, then clear the serving area afterwards.
What if things run late?
Because the roast takes hours, we plan from your serving time, and we can hold the roast for a while if the day runs behind.
Do you clear up?
Our staff clear up after service, and leave the area tidy.
What do people get?
Rolls with roast pork, stuffing, apple sauce and crackling. You can add lamb, chicken, vegetarian and vegan options, salads, coleslaw and potatoes.
Is all of Kent covered?
We cater across Kent. Get in touch for a price.
How far ahead should we book?
Popular dates go early. But do ask even at short notice: use our quote form.
For planners, venues and organisers
Venues often have rules for outside caterers, from approved lists to where a gas roaster can go. Ask early, and pass on anything they need from us.
If you’re a venue or event planner, we are happy to work alongside your team, sharing timings and a site plan.
Before you choose a spot
The roaster needs the right spot, because it cooks outside for several hours, so a few things are worth checking:
- Flat outdoor ground for the roaster and a gazebo
- A safe distance from walls, tents and trees
- A step-free route to wheel the equipment in
If in doubt, send us a picture of the spot and we will advise.

A closer look at the menu
Stuffing and apple sauce
Sharp, sweet apple sauce and savoury sage and onion stuffing go with the pork perfectly. Stuffing normally contains gluten.
Roast pork
Our chef carves the pork as it is needed, which keeps it hot and moist.
A hog roast compared with other options
The obvious catch is that a hog roast is pork. That’s why we offer lamb, chicken, halloumi skewers and a vegan option. Extras such as lamb, chicken, more sides or china crockery add to the cost, so each one is itemised. A simple menu keeps the cost down.

Step by step
On the day, we position the roaster under cover and get the hog cooking. It then roasts slowly for several hours, timed so it’s ready when you want to eat. Around midsummer it stays light in Challock until about 9:15pm; by late September sunset is nearer 7:00pm, so a summer evening hog roast is normally carved in daylight. For winter events, dark by about 3:50pm, we need light by the roaster and the serving table.
- We start with a few details about your event.
- You get an availability check and a clear quote.
- We agree timings and where the roaster goes.
- We roast slowly on site, then carve for your guests.
- We serve, tidy up and leave the spot clean.
How to prepare
- Choose a level, open spot outdoors for the roaster
- Measure the narrowest gate or passage
- Think about shelter for your guests
