Party hog roast in Challock
Party hog roast in Challock, slow-roasted on site
Party food needs to be easy to eat, and pork rolls with stuffing, apple sauce and crackling are just that. Alternatives cover anyone who doesn’t eat pork. We serve a vegan burger or sausage, crackling and jacket potatoes, and we are regularly asked to cater big birthday parties and leaving and retirement do’s.
Near Challock, parties are frequently in gardens or fields. Let us know about access, and we will handle the rest. Our chef carves in front of your guests, so every roll gets hot pork and a piece of crackling.
Planning for dietary needs
Some guests will not eat pork, so it’s worth adding an alternative. A few pointers:
- Halal isn’t offered, so arrange it separately if needed
- Count non-pork eaters so we can bring chicken or a vegetarian option
- Give us numbers for vegetarians and vegans
- Think about children’s portions
Warn the neighbours: the roast cooks for hours.
Add chicken for younger or fussier guests.
Challock parties: what to know
Challock is about 5 miles north of Ashford, in Kent. Parties in Challock are part of our patch, as well as the surrounding area. We cover all 922 towns and villages in Kent, from the larger towns to small villages. We cater events right across the region, from Challock to Canterbury (10 miles away).
After a christening at a church like Church of St Cosmas and St Damian, a hog roast in the garden is an easy way to feed family and friends. Historic houses near Challock include Belmont House and Gardens (3.9 miles north) and Godinton House (4.5 miles south-west). For most parties, a garden or hall is easier than a historic venue with strict catering rules. Challock is within about 4 miles of the Kent Downs National Landscape, so a garden party here comes with a lovely backdrop.
We bring hog roasts to parties all over the TN25 postcode area and the streets around it. Streets in the area include Chapmans Close, Blind Lane and Old Clock House Green, and a party on any of them works with a garden, drive or yard for the roaster. Other places close to Challock we cover include Pested (1 mile north), Paddock (1 mile west), Stocker's Head (3 miles west), Badlesmere (3 miles north) and Throwley Forstal (3 miles north). Further out, we also cater in Maidstone (15 miles west), Ashford (5 miles south), Canterbury (10 miles north-east), Sittingbourne (11 miles north-west), Whitstable (11 miles north-east) and Faversham (7 miles north).
Well-known places in the area include Tower keep castle at Chilham (3.9 miles north-east) and William Harvey Hospital (5.6 miles south).

Rolls and gluten-free rolls

For planners, venues and organisers
Organisers may ask for documents such as a risk assessment or gas safety information. Let us know what your event requires and we’ll tell you what we can send.
If you’re booking for a workplace, ask your facilities team about outside caterers and gas cooking. We work to the site’s rules.
What happens on the day
When we arrive, we set up the roaster on the agreed spot, put the cover up and start the roast. From there it cooks low and slow for hours, worked back from your serving time. In Challock, late May sunsets come at about 8:45pm and midsummer ones at about 9:15pm, so most summer parties eat in daylight. After about 3:50pm in December, we need light to carve.
- It starts with the date, the address and a rough guest list.
- We check the space and send a clear quote.
- On the day we arrive hours ahead and start the roast under cover.
- When it is time to eat, the chef carves and we serve.
- We clear up and pack away.
Before we arrive
- Check there’s nothing overhead or close by that could catch the heat
- Measure the narrowest gate or passage
- Pick a flat, open area outside for cooking

Should I cook it myself?
Catered or DIY? With catering, our chef roasts, carves and serves, and our staff clear up. With DIY hire, you do the work and save on staffing.
You could go for a cold buffet, but nothing beats hot pork and crackling carved in front of you, especially outdoors.
Questions from Challock
Is Challock too small for a hog roast?
No, we come to small places too. Tell us about lanes, gates and the ground.
Can you cater after a service at Church of St Cosmas and St Damian?
Yes, at a home, hall or venue nearby with an outdoor spot for the roaster. Churches rarely have space for a hog roast, so the food is typically elsewhere. Send us the address.
What comes with the hog roast?
Roast pork carved into soft rolls with sage and onion stuffing, apple sauce and crackling. Extras include lamb, chicken, halloumi skewers, a vegan option, salads and potatoes.
Do you leave the area tidy?
Our staff clear up after service, leaving the spot as we found it.
How big a hog will we need?
The roast is chosen to suit how many you’re feeding, so tell us your best estimate. The quote sets it out.
Does the roaster have to be outside?
It cooks outside, under a gazebo, on a level spot. The food can be carried in and served indoors where the venue allows.
When do you start roasting?
Several hours, depending on the size and the weather, so we arrive well before you want to eat. We work back from your serving time.
How soon do you get booked up?
Popular dates go early. But it’s always worth asking: fill in our quote form.
Planning the cooking spot
Most outdoor spaces can work with a little planning. Here’s what we look for:
- Somewhere for us to park nearby
- A heads-up for next door
- A side gate or passage wide enough to wheel the equipment
If you are unsure, send a picture of the space and the way in, and we will say what we think.

Your quote depends on:
- Time on site
- Menu choices and extras
- Season and day of the week
- Site access
When comparing prices, compare the same things: the menu, sides, service time, staffing, crockery and travel. A cheaper headline price can leave things out.
