Working with your venue

Marquee hire companies frequently have rules about cooking near their tents, so tell them a hog roast is coming. We’ll keep the roaster well clear of the marquee.

Many venues set rules for outside caterers, from approved lists to where a gas roaster can go. Check early, and tell us what they ask for.

Hog roast hire for your event in Dean Court

A hog roast is one of the simplest ways to feed a crowd in Dean Court: a single slow roast, carved to order. We bring the roaster, the cover and the serving kit, and our staff serve and clear. We serve halloumi skewers, crackling and spit-roast lamb, and typical bookings are for corporate events and christmas parties.

There may be a hall or playing field near Dean Court if the garden is small; any can work, with the owner’s agreement to a gas-fired roaster. The hog is roasted on site at your event, slowly, over several hours, then carved fresh for your guests.

How the day works

Your timings come first. If things run late, we can hold the cooked roast for a while before carving, so keep us posted on the day. By late September, sunset in Dean Court is around 7:10pm, and in December it is nearer 3:55pm. For anything after that, plan lights for the serving area.

  1. First, tell us about your event.
  2. We check the date and the cooking spot, then send a quote.
  3. Timings and the cooking area are agreed in advance.
  4. On the day we roast for hours, then carve to order.
  5. Our staff serve and clear, then we pack away.

Some hosts try a barbecue instead, but someone has to stand at the grill all day. With a hog roast, one roast feeds everyone at once.

Timing is the tricky part of roasting your own: a whole hog takes hours, and it needs to be cooked through safely. If that sounds stressful, choose the catered option.

Occasions we serve in Dean Court

Looking after everyone

Not everyone eats pork, so it is worth adding an alternative. A few pointers:

  • Remember that stuffing normally contains gluten, so ask for the allergen list
  • Add a dietary question to your invitations
  • Give us numbers for vegetarians and vegans so we bring enough halloumi skewers and vegan burgers or sausages
  • Request gluten-free rolls for coeliac guests

We will be with you for a good part of the day, since slow roasting starts early.

China crockery is available on request, at an extra cost.

Before you choose a spot

Before the day, it helps to think about where the roaster will go. We look for:

  • Space away from buildings, marquee walls and overhanging branches
  • Flat outdoor ground for the roaster and a gazebo
  • Vehicle access close to the cooking area

If in doubt, send us a picture of the spot and we will advise before you book.

How we price a hog roast

Your quote depends on:

  • Access to the cooking area
  • Time on site
  • Numbers
  • Season and day of the week

Extras such as lamb, chicken, more sides or china crockery add to the cost, so we list each one in the quote. Keeping it simple keeps it affordable.

What to tell us

For a quick, accurate price, tell us:

  • The date and when you’d like to eat
  • Anything the venue has asked for
  • Where the event is
  • Roughly how many people

For a quote, send us a few details: your date, your venue or postcode, how many people and any menu choices. Use our quote form.

Is a hog roast right for your event?

A hog roast has one downside: it is pork. So we offer lamb, chicken and vegetarian and vegan choices too for anyone who does not eat it. What you pay covers the meat, the chef and staff, and hours of roasting. Slow roasting means we are on site for much of the day, which is built into the price.

Why us?

  • Our staff serve and clear
  • Carved to order by a chef
  • The classics: stuffing, apple sauce and crackling
  • An itemised quote

FAQs for Dean Court

How far is Dean Court from London?

About 55 miles from central London.

Can you cater after a service at St Andrew's?

Yes, at a home, hall or venue nearby with an outdoor spot for the roaster. Churches rarely have space for a hog roast, so the food is usually elsewhere. Send us the address.

What about coeliacs?

Gluten-free rolls are available on request. Ask for the allergen list, as stuffing normally contains gluten.

Do you travel across Oxfordshire?

We cover Oxfordshire and the rest of London and the South East. Send us the address for a quote.

How does hog roast hire work?

We handle the roasting, carving and serving. Just give us an outdoor spot to cook.

What if it rains?

Rain does not stop the cooking. A marquee, hall or barn for eating makes all the difference.

Does the roaster have to be outside?

The roaster always stays outside, under cover, away from buildings and marquee walls. Serving inside is frequently possible, with the venue’s agreement.

What if things run late?

We will be as flexible as we can. Keep us posted on the day and we’ll fit around changes.

  • Roasted on site for several hours, outdoors under cover
  • Carved by our chef into rolls with stuffing, apple sauce and crackling
  • Vegetarian and vegan choices, plus lamb or chicken if you like
  • Served when you’re ready, and we tidy the serving area afterwards
