About our hog roast hire in Farmoor

People book a hog roast in Farmoor for everything from birthdays to fêtes. The idea is always the same: slow roasting at your venue, then carving and serving. Whether it’s clubhouse events and big birthdays and anniversaries, we will put together a menu of hog roast rolls, spit-roast lamb and new potatoes.

Somewhere as small as Farmoor, a field, yard or garden is often the spot. Tell us about narrow lanes or long drives, and firm, level ground matters most. Plates come as standard, with china available if you’d like it, at an extra cost.

Planning for dietary needs

A little planning helps everyone eat safely. Here are a few tips:

  • Stuffing normally contains gluten, so ask for the allergen list
  • Tell us about vegetarians and vegans so we bring enough halloumi skewers and vegan burgers or sausages
  • We do not offer halal meat, so arrange that separately if it’s needed
  • Count anyone who does not eat pork, and order an alternative for them

Expect us to be on site for much of the day, since slow roasting starts early.

Sides turn a roll into a proper meal, and they’re listed in your quote.

The process

Rain does not stop the roast, because we cook under cover. Your guests will still want somewhere dry to eat, such as a marquee, hall or barn. Evenings in Farmoor stay light until about 9:25pm in June, but by late September sunset is around 7:10pm; once it is dark, we need light at the carving station.

  1. You share the when, where and how many.
  2. We look at the cooking area and send a price.
  3. We arrive early, set up under cover and start roasting.
  4. The chef carves and the team fills rolls or plates.
  5. We clear up and go.

Before we arrive

  • Check there’s nothing overhead or close by that could catch the heat
  • Measure the narrowest gate or passage
  • Plan somewhere sheltered for people to eat if it rains

What the cooking area needs

The roaster needs the right spot, because it cooks outside for several hours, so a few things are worth checking:

  • Any venue rules sorted in advance
  • Somewhere nearby to park our vehicle
  • A level patch of lawn, patio or hardstanding

If you are unsure, send a photo of the space and the way in, and we’ll say what we think.

Why a carved hog roast beats a buffet

Compared with a cold buffet, hot roast pork carved in front of you is a different experience. A buffet can sit out all afternoon. Travel matters for the price: we include travel in the quote. Give us the address for an accurate figure.

Why us?

  • Self-contained: roaster, cover and serving kit
  • Staff to serve, so you don’t have to
  • Carved by our chef in front of your guests
  • Sides to make it a full meal

Read our prices page and the cost guide.

For planners, venues and organisers

If you are planning an event on someone’s behalf, such as a wedding planner, an office manager or a fête committee, tell us who our contact on the day will be. We will keep everyone in the loop.

Planning on behalf of a committee? One clear contact makes everything easier, especially on the day.

Questions from Farmoor

We are gathering after a service at St Mary's Church: can you cater?

Yes, at a home, hall or venue nearby with an outdoor spot for the roaster. Churches rarely have space for a hog roast, so the food is usually elsewhere. Send us the address.

How far is Farmoor from London?

Roughly 57 miles from the centre of London.

What’s included?

The classic: pork in rolls with stuffing, apple sauce and crackling. Sides and extra meats are listed in your quote.

How does hog roast hire work?

We roast on site, carve to order and serve, with stuffing, apple sauce and crackling.

How far ahead should we book?

Summer Saturdays and December book up first. Quieter dates can often be booked at shorter notice. Ask and we’ll check.

How big a hog will we need?

The roast is chosen to suit how many you’re feeding, so tell us your best estimate. We’ll confirm the menu in the quote.

Do you travel across Oxfordshire?

All of Oxfordshire is in our area. Tell us the venue for a quote.

What space does the roaster need?

Roughly the footprint of a gazebo or two, on level ground, away from buildings, marquee walls and overhanging trees. We will check it with you before booking.

Catered or do it yourself?

The hardest part of a DIY hog roast is timing: a whole hog takes hours, and it needs to be cooked through safely. If you’d rather not worry about it, let us cook.

You could go for a cold buffet, but hot, freshly carved roast pork is a different experience.

What affects the price in Farmoor

Each price is built from:

  • Crockery choices
  • The number of people
  • Season and day of the week
  • Time on site

Weekday and off-season dates can be easier to book, and the menu you choose makes a difference too. Ask us and we will suggest the best fit for your budget.

Getting an accurate quote

A few details help us give you an accurate quote. Here’s what to include:

  • Rules from the venue or landowner
  • The date and time of the event
  • Where the event is
  • Dietary requirements

The quickest way to get a price is to tell us the date, where the event is and roughly how many. A picture of where the roaster could go helps us check the space. Send us your details through our quote form.
