Hog roast hire in Fifield, carved to order

A hog roast is one of the simplest ways to feed a crowd in Fifield: a single slow roast, carved to order. Everything comes with us, and we serve and tidy up afterwards. We’re often asked to cater garden parties and barbecues and christmas fairs, serving halloumi skewers, rotisserie chicken and hog roast rolls.

Somewhere like Fifield, a yard or firm field often works. Gates, verges and soft ground are worth mentioning when you enquire. Timings are planned around your event, working back from when you want to eat.

Organising for someone else?

If the event is on someone else’s land, the landowner needs to agree to cooking and vehicles. Sort that first.

Booking for a club or group? One clear contact makes everything easier, especially on the day.

Is a hog roast right for your event?

Compared with a plated meal, a hog roast needs no kitchen and fewer staff, which frequently makes it better value. The main driver is numbers: bigger groups normally cost less per head, since much of the cost is fixed.

Why book our hog roast in Fifield

  • Staff to serve, so you do not have to
  • Served at the time you choose
  • No surprises: everything in writing
  • Fresh carving at the serving station

A closer look at the menu

Stuffing and apple sauce

Sharp, sweet apple sauce and savoury sage and onion stuffing are the traditional pairing. Note that stuffing usually contains gluten.

Roast pork

Slow-roasted pork is the heart of the menu: carved thick or thin, as people like it, and served hot.

DIY versus a catered hog roast

You could roast a hog yourself, but it is a long day’s work, from early set-up to carving at the end. With us catering, you get to be a host, not a cook.

The hardest part of a DIY hog roast is timing: a whole hog takes hours, and it needs to be cooked through safely. If that sounds stressful, choose the catered option.

What a hog roast costs

We work out each quote from:

  • Distance from us
  • The serving time and how long we’re on site
  • Plates or china
  • Numbers

Published UK guides give a wide range for hog roast catering, from around £10 a head for a basic roll to £20 or more with sides and service. Every event gets its own quote, with everything listed.

What we need to know

When you contact us, it helps to include:

  • Roughly how many people
  • Anything the venue has asked for
  • Where the event is
  • The date and time of the event

A quote from us sets out the menu, timings, staffing and what’s included, so it’s easy to compare like for like. Send us your details through our quote form.

Common questions in Fifield

Is Fifield too small for a hog roast?

Not at all. We cater in villages and hamlets as well as towns. Tell us about lanes, gates and the ground.

What’s the nearest station to Fifield?

The closest is Shipton station, roughly 2.6 miles away.

What should we sort out beforehand?

The agreed cooking area, access for our equipment and someone to meet us. We’ll bring the rest.

What if things run late?

We work back from when you want to eat, and a cooked roast can be held for a while if things run late.

Will there be enough to go round?

The roast is chosen to suit how many you are feeding, so tell us your best estimate. We will confirm the menu in the quote.

How long does a hog roast take to cook?

It depends on the size of the hog and the weather, but it’s several hours. You will know our arrival time in advance.

Will people get crackling?

It is: the skin turns to crackling and everyone gets some.

Do you offer gluten-free rolls?

Ask for gluten-free rolls and we will bring them. You will get allergen details for everything.

Space, access and the venue

The roaster needs space, cover and a safe distance from anything that could catch the heat. Before booking, check:

  • Parking near the spot
  • A sheltered place for people to eat if it rains
  • A level patch of lawn, patio or hardstanding

Not sure about the cooking spot? Send us a picture and we will tell you honestly.

Allergies and dietary needs

Rolls and stuffing normally contain gluten, so ask for gluten-free rolls if you need them. A few more tips:

  • If anyone needs halal food, plan a separate option
  • Remember that stuffing usually contains gluten, so ask for the allergen list
  • Find out who does not eat pork, and order an alternative for them
  • Ask for gluten-free rolls if anyone needs them

Slow roasting needs attention, which is our job, not yours. You can relax and enjoy the day.

We also hire out the roaster for DIY hog roasts.

Step by step

We get there well ahead of service, since slow roasting cannot be rushed. The smell normally brings people over long before we carve. By late September, sunset in Fifield is around 7:10pm, and at Christmas it comes at about 3:55pm. After dark, a lit path to the food makes a difference.

  1. You share the when, where and how many.
  2. We check the space and quote.
  3. We arrive early, set up under cover and start roasting.
  4. Our chef carves and our staff serve.
  5. We pack away and leave you to it.

Preparing for the day

  • Check there is nothing overhead or close by that could catch the heat
  • Ensure we can wheel the roaster to the spot
  • Think about shelter for your guests
