Hog roast hire in Kingston

How our hog roast hire works in Kingston

The format is simple and it works for almost any crowd: pork, stuffing, apple sauce and crackling in a roll, and alternatives for anyone who does not eat pork. Typical bookings include community events and clubhouse events, serving rotisserie chicken, spit-roast lamb and halloumi skewers.

In a smaller place like Kingston, a hog roast in the garden is frequently the simplest option: space to cook, no venue hire and no cooking for you. Let us know how we reach the garden. Your quote spells out what’s included: serving times, the menu, staff and anything else agreed, with no surprises on the day.

What comes off the roaster

Vegan burger or sausage (Ve)

Our vegan option is a vegan burger or sausage, in a roll, with salad on the side.

Roast pork

Our chef carves the pork as it’s needed, which keeps it hot and moist right to the last roll.

Who books hog roast hire in Kingston?

It’s generous, hearty food that most people love, and there are alternatives for everyone else.

However big or small the event in Kingston, a hog roast feeds a crowd well. Bookings frequently include:

  • Big birthdays and anniversaries
  • Christmas fairs
  • Weddings and receptions
  • Fêtes, fairs and shows

A green space like Alexandra Park is tempting, but a gas-fired roaster there needs the landowner’s say-so, typically the council’s.

What to look for in a quote

  • What the cooking area needs: space, cover and access
  • Plates, china and cutlery
  • When they arrive and when the food will be ready
  • If the price includes VAT

How to compare hog roast caterers

What a hog roast costs

There is no fixed price list, since every event is different. What matters most:

  • The menu and extras such as lamb or chicken
  • The journey to the venue
  • How easy it is to reach the spot
  • The date and time of year

What you pay covers the meat, the chef and staff, and hours of roasting. A long, slow roast means an early start, and the quote reflects that.

What we need to know

To get the best quote, tell us:

  • The date and when you’d like to eat
  • Allergies we should know about
  • Which meats and sides you’d like
  • Rules from the venue or landowner

If you are comparing hog roast caterers for Kingston, check what each quote actually includes. Ours lists it clearly. For a quote, use our quote form.

Looking after everyone

Not everyone eats pork, so plan an alternative. Helpful tips:

  • Ask us to keep the vegetarian food separate and labelled
  • Remember that stuffing typically contains gluten, so ask for the allergen list
  • Ask for gluten-free rolls if anyone needs them
  • Collect allergies with your RSVPs

We bring the cover, the carving table and the serving kit, so all you need is the space.

We can supply china instead of standard plates, quoted separately.

Your questions about a hog roast in Kingston

What’s the nearest station to Kingston?

Fratton station, about 0.5 miles south-west of the centre.

What about windy coastal sites?

Yes. We roast under cover and choose a sheltered spot where we can.

Can you do gluten-free?

We can provide gluten-free rolls if you ask. Stuffing usually contains gluten, so check the allergen information.

Is there a non-pork option?

There are lamb, chicken, vegetarian and vegan options: spit-roast lamb, rotisserie chicken, halloumi and vegetable skewers or a vegan burger or sausage. Please note we don’t offer halal meat.

Do we need to provide electricity?

Not to cook, because the roaster is gas-fired. Tell us what’s available and we will plan around it.

Can we choose catered or DIY?

You can have us cook, or hire the machine. We’ll explain what’s included in each when we quote.

Can you cook inside a hall or marquee?

It cooks outside, under a gazebo, on a level spot. The food can be carried in and served indoors where the venue allows.

Do you cover the whole of Portsmouth?

We cater across Portsmouth, including Kingston. Contact us for a price.

A hog roast compared with other options

Compared with a plated meal, a hog roast needs no kitchen and fewer staff, which frequently makes it better value. For larger numbers, a hog roast is typically good value, since one roast goes a long way. The menu, extras such as china and the serving time all affect the final price.

Why us?

  • Served at the time you choose
  • Roasted on site, slowly, for hours
  • All the equipment comes with us
  • Sides to make it a full meal

What happens on the day

Carving is part of the show: our chef carves the pork in front of the queue, and the crackling is shared out so everyone gets some. Around midsummer it stays light in Kingston until about 9:20pm; by late September sunset is nearer 7:10pm, so summer evening service is normally in daylight. In December it’s dark by about 4:00pm, so the cooking and serving area needs lighting.

  1. You share the when, where and how many.
  2. We look at the cooking area and send a price.
  3. We get the roaster going hours before you eat.
  4. Our chef carves and our staff serve.
  5. We pack away and leave you to it.

How to prepare

  • Keep the spot clear of buildings, marquee walls and overhanging branches
  • Gather dietary requirements early
  • Have a level outdoor spot ready
