Hog roast hire for Leafield

Hog roast hire in Leafield, slow-roasted on site

Hog roast hire means a whole pig roasted slowly at your venue, over several hours, outdoors under cover. When it’s ready, our chef carves it and our staff serve it in soft rolls with stuffing, apple sauce and a piece of crackling. For staff days and open days and wakes and memorial gatherings, we will put together a menu of spit-roast lamb, hog roast rolls and coleslaw and more.

For a rural spot like Leafield, a hog roast feels right at home. Let us know about access and ground conditions. Timings are planned around your event, because the roast has to start hours before you eat.

Full catering or machine hire?

The hardest part of a DIY hog roast is timing: a big roast takes hours and must be cooked thoroughly. If you’d rather not worry about it, let us cook.

Full catering or machine hire? With catering, our chef roasts, carves and serves, and our staff clear up. With DIY hire, you do the work and save on staffing.

What a hog roast costs

We work out each quote from:

  • How long the roast and service take
  • Crockery choices
  • How many people are eating
  • Travel to Leafield

Extras such as lamb, chicken, more sides or china crockery add to the cost, so we list each one in the quote. A simple menu keeps the cost down.

What we need to know

Here’s what we will ask:

  • Where the roaster could go, ideally with a picture
  • Your date and serving time
  • Which meats and sides you’d like
  • Allergies we should know about

When you’re weighing up caterers, ask each one exactly what’s included. We spell it out in ours. For a quote, send us your details through our quote form.

Planning the cooking spot

A good cooking spot makes the day run smoothly. Look for:

  • A way to wheel the roaster to the spot
  • A sheltered place for people to eat if it rains
  • Permission from the venue or landowner

If you’re unsure, send a photo of the space and the way in, and we will say what we think before booking.

Step by step

Your timings come first. If the day runs behind, we can hold the cooked roast for a while before carving, so tell us as soon as plans change. In Leafield, the sun sets at about 9:30pm in late June and about 7:10pm in late September, so summer evening service is typically in daylight. In December it’s dark by about 3:55pm, so the cooking and serving area needs lighting.

  1. You share the when, where and how many.
  2. We look at the cooking area and send a price.
  3. We arrive early, set up under cover and start roasting.
  4. The chef carves and the team fills rolls or plates.
  5. We pack away and leave you to it.

Before we arrive

  • Plan a step-free way in for the equipment
  • Ensure the cooking area is away from walls, tents and trees
  • Give us a contact number for the day

For planners, venues and organisers

If the event is on someone else’s land, you will need the landowner’s permission for cooking and vehicles. Sort that first.

Marquee suppliers usually set distances for cooking equipment, so tell them a hog roast is coming. We’ll keep the roaster well clear of the marquee.

The menu, dish by dish

Rotisserie chicken

Golden rotisserie chicken can be served in a roll or on a plate alongside the pork.

Vegan burger or sausage (Ve)

Vegan guests can have a vegan burger or sausage, so nobody misses out.

Choosing a hog roast caterer

Looking after everyone

Standard rolls and stuffing contain gluten, and gluten-free rolls are available on request. A few more tips:

  • Put the menu on the invitation
  • Stuffing normally contains gluten, so ask for the allergen list
  • Give us numbers for vegetarians and vegans so we bring enough halloumi skewers and vegan burgers or sausages
  • Label the vegetarian and vegan food clearly

Expect us to be on site for much of the day, because the roast starts hours before you eat.

China crockery is available on request, at an extra cost.

  • Cooked where you are, slowly, over several hours outdoors
  • Carved by our chef into rolls with stuffing, apple sauce and crackling
  • Lamb, chicken and vegetarian options alongside the pork
  • Staff to serve at the agreed time, then clear away
