A hog roast near Chilson

Hog roast hire in Chilson, slow-roasted on site

In Chilson, we cater birthdays, weddings, staff days and fêtes. Whatever the occasion, the format is the same: slow roasting at your venue, then carving and serving. Whether it’s staff days and open days and Fêtes, fairs and shows, we will put together a menu of hog roast rolls, coleslaw and salads.

Somewhere as small as Chilson, a field, yard or garden is frequently the spot. Tell us about narrow lanes or long drives, and firm, level ground matters most. We bring the people to serve and clear up, so you are not left handing out rolls or tidying up afterwards.

What the cooking area needs

A hog roast cooks outdoors for hours, so the spot matters, and a little planning goes a long way:

  • Flat outdoor ground for the roaster and a gazebo
  • A step-free route to wheel the equipment in
  • The venue’s agreement to a gas-fired roaster

Not sure about the cooking spot? Send us a picture and we’ll tell you honestly.

FAQs for Chilson

What’s the nearest station to Chilson?

Ascott-Under-Wychwood station, about 1.2 miles west of the centre.

Do you come out to small places like Chilson?

No, we come to small places too. Let us know about access and the cooking spot.

Do you come to Chilson?

Yes. We cater across London and the South East, Chilson and the rest of Oxfordshire included. Send us the address for a quote.

Do you cook it or do we?

Either: fully catered, where we roast, carve and serve, or DIY machine hire. Catering is the most popular choice.

Does the roaster have to be outside?

The roaster always stays outside, under cover, at a safe distance from walls and tents. We can frequently serve indoors if the venue agrees.

Do you provide china?

Plates are included. China is available at an extra cost.

How long does the roast need?

Several hours, depending on the size and the weather, which is why we arrive hours ahead. We plan the timings from when you want to eat.

How do we prepare?

Only the space and a contact number. Everything for roasting and serving comes with us.

For event organisers in Chilson

Some venues charge a fee if you bring in your own caterer, so check before you book. We’ll work with the venue on access and the cooking spot.

Marquee suppliers usually set distances for cooking equipment, so tell them a hog roast is coming. The roaster stays a safe distance from the marquee.

Chilson: venues, access and local tips

Chilson is about 6 miles north of Witney, in Oxfordshire. Thinking about a hog roast in Chilson? We can help. We bring hog roasts to all 443 towns and villages across Oxfordshire. You can also see our page for Oxford, about 16 miles away.

How to compare hog roast caterers

What a hog roast costs

There’s no fixed price list, because every event is different. What matters most:

  • How long the roast and service take
  • How many people are eating
  • The date and time of year
  • Crockery choices

Travel matters for the price: we include travel in the quote. Give us the address for an accurate figure.

Getting an accurate quote

To check the date and the space, tell us:

  • The address or postcode
  • Roughly how many people
  • Allergies we should know about
  • Any extras, such as lamb, chicken or china

Send us the date, the address or OX7 postcode and rough numbers, along with your serving time. We’ll check the date and send a quote. Fill in our quote form.

Why a carved hog roast beats a buffet

Next to a buffet, hot roast pork carved in front of you is a different experience. A buffet can sit out all afternoon. Compare like for like: the menu, sides, service time, staffing, crockery and travel. The cheapest quote is not always the best value.

Why book with us

  • Cooked on the day, low and slow
  • Crackling for everyone who wants it
  • Lamb, chicken and vegetarian options alongside
  • Our staff serve and clear

Diets, allergies and alternatives

Tell us about dietary needs early and we will help. Tips:

  • If anyone needs halal food, plan a separate option
  • Ask for gluten-free rolls if anyone needs them
  • Count anyone who doesn’t eat pork, and order an alternative for them
  • Ask us to keep the vegetarian food separate and labelled

Slow roasting needs attention, which is our job, not yours. You can get on with your event.

Prefer to cook yourself? Ask about DIY machine hire.

About the food

Vegan burger or sausage (Ve)

Tell us how many vegans to expect, and we’ll bring enough vegan burgers or sausages.

Salads, potatoes and coleslaw

Salads, new potatoes, coleslaw and roast or jacket potatoes turn rolls into a full meal, especially at a sit-down event.

How it works

We work to your timings. If the day runs behind, we can hold the cooked roast for a while before carving, so tell us as soon as plans change. Around midsummer it stays light in Chilson until about 9:30pm; by late September sunset is nearer 7:10pm, so a summer evening hog roast is normally carved in daylight. In December it’s dark by about 3:55pm, so the cooking and serving area needs lighting.

  1. You tell us the date, the address, rough numbers and when you’d like to eat.
  2. We check the date and the cooking area, then send a quote.
  3. We arrive well ahead, put the cover up and get the hog roasting.
  4. Our chef carves to order and our staff serve at the agreed time.
  5. We clear the serving area and pack away.

How to prepare

  • Confirm numbers ahead of the day
  • Let us know about tight access
  • Plan a step-free way in for the equipment
