How our hog roast hire works in Marlow Common

Hog roast hire means a whole pig roasted slowly at your venue, over several hours, outdoors under cover. When it’s ready, our chef carves it and our staff serve it in soft rolls with sage and onion stuffing, apple sauce and crackling. We’re frequently asked to cater wakes and memorial gatherings and summer garden parties, with salads, halloumi skewers and spit-roast lamb.

In a rural place like Marlow Common, roast pork in a field is hard to beat. Let us know about access and ground conditions. Plates come as standard, with china available if you’d like it, at an extra cost.

Looking after everyone

Not everyone eats pork, so plan an alternative. A few pointers:

  • We do not offer halal meat, so arrange that separately if it is needed
  • Stuffing normally contains gluten, so ask for the allergen list
  • Request gluten-free rolls for coeliac guests
  • Label the vegetarian and vegan food clearly

Everything for serving comes with us, so you only need to provide the space.

Common questions in Marlow Common

Is Marlow Common too small for a hog roast?

No, we come to small places too. Let us know about access and the cooking spot.

We size the roast to your numbers, so tell us your best estimate. We will confirm the menu in the quote.

Can we have lamb or chicken?

It is built around the hog, but lamb and chicken can be added.

Can we hire the machine and cook it ourselves?

We do, if you’re happy to roast and carve yourself. Ask and we will talk you through it.

Should I cook it myself?

DIY hire works best when someone in the family loves cooking. For weddings and bigger events, a catered roast is generally easier.

Catered or DIY? With catering, our chef roasts, carves and serves, and our staff clear up. With hire only, you do the cooking yourself.

How the day works

We roast under cover, so a shower will not spoil the food. It is worth planning a sheltered place for people to eat, too. Late September evenings in Marlow Common lose the light at about 7:05pm, and at Christmas it comes at about 3:55pm. After dark, a lit path to the food makes a difference.

  1. It starts with your date, venue, numbers and serving time.
  2. You get a check on the date and the spot, and a quote.
  3. On the day we arrive hours before serving and start the roast under cover.
  4. Our chef carves to order and our staff serve at the agreed time.
  5. We pack everything away when everyone has eaten.

Preparing for the day

  • Collect dietary needs and allergies in advance
  • Ensure the cooking area is away from walls, tents and trees
  • Check there’s a route to wheel the equipment in, without steps

Why a carved hog roast beats a buffet

A hog roast has one downside: it is pork. That’s why we offer lamb, chicken, halloumi skewers and a vegan option. Weekday and off-season dates can be easier to book, and the menu you choose matters too. Ask us and we will suggest the best fit for your budget.

Why Marlow Common hosts choose us

  • Crackling for everyone who wants it
  • Planned to your running order
  • Our staff serve and clear
  • No surprises: everything in writing

Read how we price and the cost guide.

How we price a hog roast

Every booking is priced individually, based on a few main things:

  • Crockery choices
  • The number of people
  • Menu choices and extras
  • How long the roast and service take

The price depends on numbers, the menu and how long we serve, plus travel and access. Every booking is different, which is why each one gets its own quote.

Getting an accurate quote

The more we know, the more accurate the quote. Please include:

  • Allergies we should know about
  • Which meats and sides you’d like
  • The date and time of the event
  • What the outdoor space is like

For a quote, send us a few details: the date and serving time, the venue or SL7 postcode, rough numbers and which extras you’d like. Send us your details through our quote form.

What comes off the roaster

Salads, potatoes and coleslaw

Sides include salads, coleslaw, new potatoes and roast or jacket potatoes, depending on the season and the occasion.

Roast pork

The hog roasts slowly for hours, so the meat is tender and juicy, and our chef carves it to order.

  • Roasted on site for several hours, outdoors under cover
  • Our chef carves the pork, with stuffing, apple sauce and crackling on the side
  • Options beyond pork, including lamb, chicken and vegetarian dishes
  • Served when you’re ready, and we tidy the serving area afterwards
