Hog roast hire for Sandwich

Common questions in Sandwich

We’re gathering after a service at Sandwich United Reformed Church: can you cater?

Yes, at a nearby hall, home or venue with room to cook outside. Churches rarely have space for a hog roast, so the food is usually elsewhere. Send us the address.

Can you do a hog roast in Ham Fen?

Only with permission from the park’s owner, typically the council, and many parks do not allow cooking. Ask them first.

Is there a non-pork option?

There are lamb, chicken, vegetarian and vegan options: spit-roast lamb, rotisserie chicken, halloumi and vegetable skewers or a vegan burger or sausage. We don’t offer halal meat.

How do we prepare?

Just the agreed spot and a contact on the day. We bring the roaster, cover and serving kit.

How big a hog will we need?

The roast is chosen to suit how many you’re feeding, so a good estimate matters. We will confirm the menu in the quote.

Do you need power or water?

The roaster runs on gas, so we don’t need mains power to cook. Power can help with lighting after dark.

Do you come to Sandwich?

We do. Send us the address and we’ll confirm availability.

What happens when we hire a hog roast?

We bring the roaster, roast the hog on site for hours, then our chef carves it and our staff serve, in rolls with stuffing, apple sauce and crackling.

Hog roast hire in Sandwich, carved to order

Booking a hog roast means you do not have to cook. We get there early, put up the cover and roast for hours, then carve and serve at the time you choose. For club events and presentations and work summer parties, we’ll put together a menu of crackling, rotisserie chicken and spit-roast lamb and more.

There may be a hall or playing field near Sandwich if the garden is small; any can host a hog roast with permission. Timings are planned around your event, working back from when you want to eat.

DIY versus a catered hog roast

You could roast a hog yourself, but it is a long day’s work, from early set-up to carving at the end. With us catering, you get to be a host, not a cook.

If you’re confident and want to save on staff, DIY machine hire is an option. You do the roasting and carving; we will confirm what comes with it when you ask.

Why choose a hog roast in Sandwich?

Compared with a barbecue, one roast feeds everyone at once, so nobody stands at a grill all afternoon. See our guide to hog roast or barbecue. Weekday and off-season dates can be easier to book, and the menu you choose makes a difference too. Ask us and we will suggest the best fit for your budget.

Why Sandwich hosts choose us

  • Choices for people who do not eat pork
  • Salads, potatoes and coleslaw to go with it
  • The classics: stuffing, apple sauce and crackling
  • Roasted on site, slowly, for hours

See how we price or the cost guide.

What a hog roast costs

A few things make the biggest difference to the price:

  • Which meats and sides you choose
  • Time on site
  • Whether you want china
  • Site access

Travel matters for the price: we include travel in the quote. Give us the address for an accurate figure.

Details that help

These are the details we need:

  • What the outdoor space is like
  • Any dietary needs or allergies
  • The venue or postcode
  • Any venue rules

When you’re weighing up caterers, ask each one exactly what’s included. Ours lists it clearly. For a quote, send us your details through our quote form.

About the food

Roast pork

Everything starts with the slow-roasted pork: carved thick or thin, as people like it, and served hot.

Crackling

For many people, the crackling is the best bit: crisp, golden and full of flavour, straight off the hog.

What the cooking area needs

It’s worth planning the cooking area in advance. We look for:

  • A level, open spot outdoors for the roaster
  • Nothing overhead that could catch the heat
  • The venue’s agreement to a gas-fired roaster

If in doubt, send us a picture of the spot and we will advise before booking.

A hog roast in Sandwich: local details

Sandwich is about 5 miles north-west of Deal, in Kent. We take a hog roast to gardens, car parks, yards and venues around Sandwich and the surrounding area. Sandwich is one of 922 places in Kent where we cater. You can also see our page for Canterbury, about 11 miles away.

After a service at Sandwich United Reformed Church, the hog roast can be ready at a nearby hall or house. Parks such as Ham Fen normally need permission from the council or landowner for any cooking, so check first. The coast is within about 5 miles of Sandwich, and coastal sites can be windy. We think about wind when choosing the cooking spot and putting up the cover.

Here we cover the CT13 postcode area, and we can cater your event anywhere in it. Streets in the area include Cattle Market, Market Street and High Street, and an event on any of them works with a garden, drive or yard for the roaster. For events just outside Sandwich, we cover Great Stonar (1 mile north), Felderland (1 mile south), Worth (1 mile south), Woodnesborough (1 mile south-west) and Statenborough (1 mile south-west). Planning for dietary needs

A hog roast is pork, so plan for anyone who does not eat it. Here’s how to cover everyone:

  • Count anyone who does not eat pork, so we can bring lamb, chicken or vegetarian options
  • Tell us about vegetarians and vegans so we bring enough halloumi skewers and vegan burgers or sausages
  • We do not offer halal meat, so arrange that separately if it’s needed
  • Ask about allergies when you send invitations

On the day, you shouldn’t have to think about the food. We get there early, cook, carve and serve, and our staff clear the serving area afterwards.

We also hire out the roaster for DIY hog roasts.

For planners, venues and organisers

Many venues set rules for outside caterers, from approved lists to where a gas roaster can go. Ask early, and tell us what they ask for.

For venues and planners, we can fit around your other suppliers.

How it works

When we arrive, we position the roaster under cover and get the hog cooking. It then roasts slowly for several hours, worked back from your serving time. By late September, sunset in Sandwich is around 7:00pm, and in December it’s nearer 3:50pm. After dark, a lit path to the food makes a difference.

  1. You tell us the date, the address, rough numbers and when you’d like to eat.
  2. You get a check on the date and the spot, and a quote.
  3. On the day, we set up on the agreed spot and start roasting.
  4. Our chef carves to order and our staff serve at the agreed time.
  5. We clear the serving area and pack away.

How to prepare

  • Pick a flat, open area outside for cooking
  • Plan a step-free way in for the equipment
