Slow-roasted pork in Sandwich

About our wedding hog roast in Sandwich

Evening wedding food has one job: feed hungry dancers. Hog roast rolls with stuffing, apple sauce and crackling do exactly that. Typical bookings include wedding breakfasts with sides and marquee receptions, serving new potatoes, carved roast pork and crackling.

Weddings in a place like Sandwich frequently feel personal: a local church, then a marquee in a garden or field. We roast outside, well clear of the marquee. Tell us about access to the field or garden. Your quote spells out what’s included: the date, the serving time, the menu and the plates.

How the day works

When we arrive, we position the roaster under cover and get the hog cooking. It then roasts slowly for several hours, worked back from your serving time. In Sandwich, evening wedding food often coincides with dusk: about 9:15pm at midsummer, 8:45pm in late May and 7:00pm in late September. Festoon lights by the carving station look lovely in the photos.

  1. Share your date, venue, numbers and which meal you’d like.
  2. We check the venue and the cooking spot and send a price.
  3. We fit our timings around your running order and the venue.
  4. We cook through the day and serve right on cue.
  5. We clear away once everyone has eaten.

Before you choose a spot

The roaster needs space, cover and a safe distance from anything that could catch the heat. Before booking, check:

  • The venue’s agreement to a gas-fired roaster
  • Power for lights in the evening
  • A route to wheel equipment to the spot

If in doubt, send us a picture of the spot and we will advise.

Rotisserie chicken

Golden rotisserie chicken can be served in a roll or on a plate alongside the pork.

Crackling

Good crackling needs time and heat, and a whole hog roasted slowly gets it just right.

How we price a hog roast for your wedding

Each booking is quoted on its own, based on a few main things:

  • How easy it is to reach the spot
  • The date and time of year
  • The serving time and how long we’re on site
  • The number of people

The main driver is numbers: the price per head usually falls as numbers rise, since much of the cost is fixed.

Why choose a hog roast in Sandwich?

Next to a wedding barbecue, a hog roast feeds everyone at once from one roast. Published UK guides give a wide range for hog roast catering, from around £10 a head for a basic roll to £20 or more with sides and service. Every event gets its own quote, so you know exactly what you’re paying for.

Why Sandwich hosts choose us

  • A choice of salads and potatoes
  • Served at the time you choose
  • Serving and clearing done for you
  • Crackling for everyone who wants it

See our prices page or the cost guide.

Looking after everyone

Tell us about dietary needs early and we’ll help. Some ideas:

  • Count non-pork eaters, for lamb, chicken or a vegetarian choice
  • Stuffing normally contains gluten
  • Pass numbers for vegetarians and vegans to us
  • Give final numbers in good time

Evening food normally goes out an hour or two after the first dance.

Ask for gluten-free rolls for any coeliac guests.

Sandwich questions

Could you cook in Ham Fen?

Only if the landowner, usually the council, allows it. Check with them first.

We are gathering after a service at Sandwich United Reformed Church: can you cater?

Yes, at a nearby hall, home or venue with room to cook outside. Churches rarely have space for a hog roast, so the food is usually elsewhere. Tell us where you will gather.

How much room do you need?

Roughly the footprint of a gazebo or two, on level ground, away from buildings, marquee walls and overhanging trees. We’ll check it with you before booking.

Is there a non-pork option?

Add lamb, chicken, halloumi and vegetable skewers or a vegan option. We do not offer halal meat.

Do we need to provide electricity?

Cooking is gas-fired, so no mains power is needed for the roast. A socket nearby is useful for lighting.

Do you come to Sandwich?

Yes, Sandwich is in our area. Tell us the venue or postcode and we will check the date.

How soon do you get booked up?

As early as you can for summer weekends and December. Quieter dates can often be booked at shorter notice. Ask and we will check.

Can you cook inside a hall or marquee?

Outside, always. Serving indoors is usually fine if the venue is happy.

  • Slow-roasted on site for hours, outdoors at your event
  • Carved to order by our chef, with stuffing, apple sauce and crackling
  • Options beyond pork, including lamb, chicken and vegetarian dishes
  • Our team serves at your chosen time and clears up afterwards
