Book a hog roast in South Leigh

Hog roast hire in South Leigh, slow-roasted on site

The format is simple and it works for almost any crowd: pork, stuffing, apple sauce and crackling in a roll, plus lamb, chicken, vegetarian and vegan choices if you want them. Typical bookings include Fêtes, fairs and shows and birthdays and anniversaries, with halloumi skewers, crackling and rotisserie chicken.

In a hamlet or village like South Leigh, a farmyard or a neighbour’s field can make a good cooking spot. Gates, verges and soft ground are worth mentioning when you enquire. The carving happens right in front of your guests, so every roll gets hot pork and a piece of crackling.

The process

Rain does not stop the roast, because we cook under cover. Your guests will still want somewhere dry to eat, such as a marquee, hall or barn. Late September evenings in South Leigh lose the light at about 7:10pm, and in December it is nearer 3:55pm. For anything after that, plan lights for the serving area.

  1. First, you send us your date, address, numbers and serving time.
  2. We check the date and the cooking area, then send a quote.
  3. We arrive well ahead, put the cover up and get the hog roasting.
  4. Our chef carves to order and our staff serve at the agreed time.
  5. Afterwards we clear up and leave the spot tidy.

Getting ready for the day

  • Have a level outdoor spot ready
  • Gather dietary requirements early
  • Check there’s a route to wheel the equipment in, without steps

Your questions about a hog roast in South Leigh

Is South Leigh too small for a hog roast?

No, we come to small places too. Tell us about lanes, gates and the ground.

How far is South Leigh from London?

Roughly 60 miles from the centre of London, and we cover it as standard.

What if it rains?

We roast under cover, so the food is not affected. Plan somewhere sheltered for eating.

Do we need our own staff?

We carve and serve for you, and we clear up when service is finished.

Can you cater for vegetarians?

The menu has lamb, chicken, vegetarian and vegan options. We don’t provide halal meat.

What’s included?

Roast pork carved into soft rolls with sage and onion stuffing, apple sauce and crackling. Extras include lamb, chicken, halloumi skewers, a vegan option, salads and potatoes.

Can we just hire the roaster?

We do, if you are happy to roast and carve yourself. We will explain the details with your quote.

What if things run late?

Within reason, we can. Give us a contact on the day and we’ll fit around changes.

Hog roast hire around South Leigh

We cater 443 places across Oxfordshire. We cater events right across the region, from South Leigh to Oxford (about 9 miles away).

Nearby historic houses include Minster Lovell Hall (4.6 miles west). Historic venues often limit cooking on site, so ask early if you’re booking one. School fairs and fundraisers, for a school such as Wood Green School, can book a hog roast stall.

Organising for someone else?

For workplace bookings, check with facilities about gas equipment and vehicle access. We will fit in with site rules.

If you are planning an event on someone’s behalf, whether you’re a planner, a PA or on a committee, tell us who our contact on the day will be. We’ll keep you both updated.

Catered or do it yourself?

We also hire out the hog roast machine for confident cooks. You do the roasting and carving; we’ll confirm what comes with it when you ask.

You could roast a hog yourself, but it is a long day’s work, from setting up and lighting the roaster to carving. A catered hog roast means you can enjoy the day.

Planning for dietary needs

Rolls and stuffing normally contain gluten, so ask for gluten-free rolls if you need them. Other tips:

  • Ask us to keep the vegetarian food separate and labelled
  • Find out who doesn’t eat pork, so we can bring lamb, chicken or vegetarian options
  • Ask for gluten-free rolls if anyone needs them
  • Add a dietary question to your invitations

Slow roasting needs attention, which is our job, not yours. You can get on with your event.

China crockery is available on request, at an extra cost.

Planning the cooking spot

Most gardens, car parks, yards and fields work if a few things are right. Here’s what helps:

  • Space away from buildings, marquee walls and overhanging branches
  • A step-free route to wheel the equipment in
  • A level, open spot outdoors for the roaster

If you’re unsure, send a photo of the space and the way in, and we will say what we think.

How we price a hog roast

We do not use a fixed price list, because every event is different. What matters most:

  • Busy dates such as summer Saturdays
  • Distance from us
  • Which meats and sides you choose
  • How long the roast and service take

Travel matters for the price: travel is included in your quote. Tell us the exact address for an accurate figure.

What we need to know

When you get in touch, please mention:

  • Where the roaster could go, ideally with a photo
  • Your menu choices
  • The date and when you’d like to eat
  • An estimate of numbers

It’s easy to get a price: date, place, numbers and serving time. You’ll get a clear quote listing what’s included. Send us your details through our quote form.

Why a carved hog roast beats a buffet

Next to a formal plated meal, a hog roast needs no kitchen and fewer staff, which generally keeps the cost down. Compare like for like: the menu, sides, service time, staffing, crockery and travel. A cheaper headline price can leave things out.

What you get with us

  • Served at the time you choose
  • Roasted on site, slowly, for hours
  • No surprises: everything in writing
  • Fresh carving at the serving station
