How our hog roast hire works in Tankerton

The smell of roasting pork is half the appeal. We roast slowly on site in Tankerton, then carve the pork into rolls with all the trimmings. On the menu are new potatoes, salads and crackling, and we are regularly asked to cater weddings, day or evening and work summer parties.

In and around Tankerton, gardens and village halls are common choices. If the lane is narrow, tell us so we can plan our vehicle. We bring plates as standard, and china crockery is available on request, quoted separately.

Carving roast pork into slices on a board

What comes off the roaster

Halloumi and vegetable skewers (V)

Not everyone eats meat, and halloumi skewers give them a proper hot option.

Spit-roast lamb

Lamb roasted on the spit is a lovely alternative to pork, especially for guests who do not eat pork.

How it works

Your timings come first. If things run late, we can hold the cooked roast for a while before carving, so keep us posted on the day. Evenings in Tankerton stay light until about 9:15pm in June, but by late September sunset is around 7:00pm; after dark, the serving area and the path to it need good lighting.

  1. You tell us the date, the address, rough numbers and when you’d like to eat.
  2. We check the date and the cooking area, then send a quote.
  3. On the day, we set up on the agreed spot and start roasting.
  4. At serving time, the chef carves and the team serves.
  5. Afterwards we clear up and leave the spot tidy.

Preparing for the day

  • Ensure the cooking area is away from walls, tents and trees
  • Measure the narrowest gate or passage
  • Plan somewhere sheltered for people to eat if it rains

Looking after everyone

With a bit of planning, dietary needs are easier to handle. Here are a few tips:

  • Give us numbers for vegetarians and vegans for the halloumi skewers and vegan option
  • Label the vegetarian and vegan food clearly
  • Remember that stuffing typically contains gluten, so ask for the allergen list
  • If anyone needs halal food, plan a separate option

You won’t need to worry about the food on the day. We get there early, cook, carve and serve, and our staff clear the serving area afterwards.

Sides turn a roll into a proper meal.

A hog roast or other catering?

Compared with a barbecue, a hog roast cooks in one go and is carved for everyone, so nobody stands at a grill all afternoon. See our guide to hog roast or barbecue. The price depends on numbers, the menu and how long we serve, plus travel and access. There’s no one-size price, so we quote each one individually.

Why us?

  • Our staff serve and clear
  • A clear quote with everything listed
  • The classics: stuffing, apple sauce and crackling
  • Timed around your day

School fairs and fundraisers, for a school such as St Mary's Catholic Primary School, can book a hog roast stall. If you’re gathering after a service at a church like Church of All Saints, a nearby hall or garden suits a hog roast. Tankerton is within about a mile of the sea, and sea breezes can be strong. We plan a sheltered cooking spot on windy days.

Common questions in Tankerton

We’re gathering after a service at Church of All Saints: can you cater?

Yes, at a nearby hall, home or venue with room to cook outside. Churches rarely have space for a hog roast, so the food is generally elsewhere. Send us the address.

Is Tankerton close to London?

About 50 miles from central London, and we cover it as standard.

Can we choose catered or DIY?

You can have us cook, or hire the machine. We’ll explain what’s included in each when we quote.

What’s the price?

Numbers, menu and travel decide the price. Tell us your date and we’ll send a price.

What meats can we have?

The hog is the centrepiece, but lamb and chicken can be added.

How do we prepare?

Just the agreed spot and a contact on the day. Everything for roasting and serving comes with us.

How do you work out quantities?

The roast is chosen to suit how many you’re feeding, so a good estimate matters. We’ll confirm the menu in the quote.

Is all of Kent covered?

All of Kent is in our area. Tell us the venue and we will quote.

Should I cook it myself?

If you’re confident and want to save on staff, DIY machine hire is an option. You do the roasting and carving; we will confirm what comes with it when you ask.

The hardest part of a DIY hog roast is timing: a whole hog takes hours, and it needs to be cooked through safely. If that sounds stressful, choose the catered option.

Before you choose a spot

Most outdoor spaces can work with a little planning. Here’s what we look for:

  • Any venue rules sorted in advance
  • A way to wheel the roaster to the spot
  • Somewhere nearby to park our vehicle

If in doubt, send us a picture of the spot and we will advise before booking.

What we serve

  • Rotisserie chicken
  • Vegan burger or sausage (Ve)
  • Roast or jacket potatoes

What a hog roast costs

Things that change the price:

  • The number of people
  • The serving time and how long we are on site
  • The date and time of year
  • Site access

For larger numbers, a hog roast is normally good value, because one whole roast feeds a lot of people. The menu, extras such as china and the serving time all affect the final price.

Getting an accurate quote

When you get in touch, it helps to include:

  • The venue or postcode
  • An estimate of numbers
  • Which meats and sides you’d like
  • Anything the venue has asked for

The quickest way to get a price is to send us your date, venue and numbers. A picture of the cooking area helps. Fill in our quote form.

For planners, venues and organisers

If you’re organising for someone else, such as a wedding planner, an office manager or a fête committee, tell us who our contact on the day will be. We’ll keep everyone in the loop.

If the event is on someone else’s land, the landowner needs to agree to cooking and vehicles. Sort that first.

  • Slow-roasted on site for hours, outdoors at your event
  • Carved to order by our chef, with stuffing, apple sauce and crackling
  • Not just pork: spit-roast lamb, chicken and vegetarian choices
  • Staff to serve at the agreed time, then clear away
