About our hog roast hire in Teston

Hog roast hire means a whole pig roasted slowly at your venue, over several hours, outdoors under cover. When it’s ready, our chef carves it and our staff serve it in soft rolls with sage and onion stuffing, apple sauce and crackling. We are often asked to cater summer garden parties and sports clubs and societies, serving crackling, halloumi skewers and rotisserie chicken.

In a hamlet or village like Teston, a farmyard or a neighbour’s field can make a good cooking spot. Mention gates and soft ground when you get in touch. We bring the people to serve and clear up, so you’re not left handing out rolls or tidying up afterwards.

Why a carved hog roast beats a buffet

The obvious catch is that a hog roast is pork. So we offer lamb, chicken and vegetarian and vegan choices too. The main driver is numbers: bigger groups typically cost less per head, because the roaster, staff and travel cost much the same either way.

Why book with us

  • A clear quote with everything listed
  • Lamb, chicken and vegetarian options alongside
  • Self-contained: roaster, cover and serving kit
  • A choice of salads and potatoes

Take a look at how we price or our hog roast cost guide.

Step by step

Slow roasting is the whole point: hours of gentle heat make the pork soft and juicy while the skin turns into crackling. Then it rests briefly before our chef carves. In Teston, the sun sets at about 9:15pm in late June and about 7:00pm in late September, so a summer evening hog roast is normally carved in daylight. For winter events, dark by about 3:50pm, we need light by the roaster and the serving table.

  1. Send us your date, numbers and address.
  2. We look at the cooking area and send a price.
  3. We arrive early, set up under cover and start roasting.
  4. The chef carves and the team fills rolls or plates.
  5. We pack away and leave you to it.

Getting ready for the day

What a hog roast costs

Your quote depends on:

  • How easy it is to reach the spot
  • The menu and extras such as lamb or chicken
  • The journey to the venue
  • The number of people

A hog roast is frequently good value for a crowd, since one roast goes a long way. Extras, china and longer service add to it.

Getting an accurate quote

Good details mean a good quote. Useful details:

  • Dietary requirements
  • Which meats and sides you’d like
  • What the outdoor space is like
  • Rough numbers

Busy weekends book up early, so ask early for summer Saturdays and December. Tell us your date and we will check it: use our quote form.

Teston questions

Can you do a hog roast in Quarry Wood?

Only if the landowner, typically the council, allows it. Check with them first, and tell us what they say.

Is Teston close to London?

Roughly 29 miles from the centre of London, and we cover it as standard.

Do you leave the area tidy?

Our staff clear up after service, leaving the spot as we found it.

Where does the hog roast go?

Roughly the footprint of a gazebo or two, on level ground, well clear of walls, tents and branches. We’ll check it with you before booking.

Can we choose catered or DIY?

You can have us cook, or hire the machine. Your quote will set out what’s included.

What about coeliacs?

Gluten-free rolls are available on request. Ask for the allergen list, as stuffing normally contains gluten.

Does the roaster have to be outside?

No, the roast is always cooked outdoors under cover, away from buildings and marquee walls. Serving inside is often possible, with the venue’s agreement.

What do you need from us on the day?

The agreed cooking area, access for our equipment and someone to meet us. We’ll bring the rest.

Organising for someone else?

Venues often have rules for outside caterers, including where gas cooking is allowed. Check early, and pass on anything they need from us.

Marquee hire companies frequently have rules about cooking near their tents, so tell them a hog roast is coming. The roaster stays a safe distance from the marquee.

Before you choose a spot

The roaster needs the right spot, because it cooks outside for several hours, and a little planning goes a long way:

  • The venue’s agreement to a gas-fired roaster
  • Vehicle access close to the cooking area
  • A sheltered place for people to eat if it rains

If you’re unsure, send a picture of the space and the way in, and we’ll say what we think before you book.

Looking after everyone

A little planning helps everyone eat safely. Here are a few tips:

  • If anyone needs halal food, plan a separate option
  • Tell us about vegetarians and vegans for the halloumi skewers and vegan option
  • Find out who doesn’t eat pork, and order an alternative for them
  • Tell guests what’s on the menu in advance

We bring the cover, the carving table and the serving kit, so all you need is the space.

Prefer to cook yourself? Ask about DIY machine hire.

Catered or do it yourself?

You could go for a cold buffet, but nothing beats hot pork and crackling carved in front of you.

If you’re confident and want to save on staff, DIY machine hire is an option. You do the roasting and carving; we’ll confirm what comes with it when you ask.

What comes off the roaster

Salads, potatoes and coleslaw

Sides include salads, coleslaw, new potatoes and roast or jacket potatoes, depending on the season and the occasion.

Crackling

Crackling is what people queue for: golden, crunchy and salty.

  • Roasted on site for several hours, outdoors under cover
  • Carved by our chef into rolls with stuffing, apple sauce and crackling
  • Options beyond pork, including lamb, chicken and vegetarian dishes
  • Served by our staff at the time you choose, then cleared away
