Hog roast hire for your event in Uffington

The smell of roasting pork is half the appeal. We cook at your venue in Uffington, low and slow, then serve it in rolls with stuffing, apple sauce and crackling. Typical bookings include work summer parties and village fêtes and school fairs, serving crackling, spit-roast lamb and hog roast rolls.

Somewhere like Uffington, a yard or firm field frequently works. Mention gates and soft ground when you get in touch. The hog is roasted on site at your event, low and slow, for hours, then carved fresh for your guests.

Space, access and the venue

The cooking area is the main thing to plan. A quick checklist:

  • A safe distance from walls, tents and trees
  • A level, open spot outdoors for the roaster
  • Somewhere nearby to park our vehicle

If in doubt, send us a picture of the spot and we’ll advise.

Allergies and dietary needs

With a bit of planning, dietary needs are easier to handle. Here are a few tips:

  • Remember that stuffing typically contains gluten, so ask for the allergen list
  • Ask for gluten-free rolls if anyone needs them
  • Ask about allergies when you send invitations
  • Tell guests what’s on the menu in advance

The roaster needs looking after for hours, which is our job, not yours. You can get on with your event.

Sides turn a roll into a proper meal, and they’re listed in your quote.

Step by step

We roast under cover, so a shower will not spoil the food. It is worth planning a sheltered place for people to eat, too. Because the roast takes hours, daylight is worth planning: around Uffington, it stays light until about 9:25pm at midsummer, but by late December it is dark by about 4:00pm, so winter bookings need lighting from mid-afternoon.

  1. You share the when, where and how many.
  2. We check the space and quote.
  3. We get the roaster going hours before you eat.
  4. Our chef carves and our staff serve.
  5. We pack away and leave you to it.

Preparing for the day

  • Measure the narrowest gate or passage
  • Have a covered area for eating in case of rain
  • Have a level outdoor spot ready

Planners, venues and businesses

If you are organising for someone else, whether you’re a planner, a PA or on a committee, tell us who our contact on the day will be. We’ll keep everyone in the loop.

Some venues charge a fee if you bring in your own caterer, so it’s worth asking first. We’ll liaise with them on access and set-up.

Catered or do it yourself?

Some hosts try a barbecue instead, but someone ends up cooking in batches all afternoon. A hog roast cooks in one go and is carved for everyone.

Buying in a cold buffet is another option, but hot, freshly carved roast pork is a different experience, especially outdoors.

Uffington: venues, access and local tips

Uffington is about 6 miles west of Wantage, in Oxfordshire. We cover events in Uffington, along with the towns and villages around it. We bring hog roasts to all 443 towns and villages in Oxfordshire, from the larger towns to small villages. We cater events right across the region, from Uffington to Oxford (about 17 miles away).

School fairs and fundraisers, for a school such as Uffington Church of England Primary School, can book a hog roast stall. Churches such as Church of St Mary rarely have room for a roaster, but a hall or home close by generally does. Uffington is within about 7 miles of the North Wessex Downs National Landscape, and some venues there have rules about cooking and vehicles on site. Ask your venue about gas cooking and access.

Anywhere in SN7, we can roast on site for your guests. Local streets include High Street, Station Road and White Horse; an event on any of them works well with outdoor space and a way in. Nearby, we also cater events in Baulking (1 mile north-east), Fernham (2 miles north-west), Shellingford (3 miles north), Little Coxwell (3 miles north-west) and Stanford in the Vale (3 miles north-east). Well-known places in the area include Uffington Museum (under half a mile west) and Faringdon Castle (4 miles north). Green spaces nearby include Seven Barrows and Dragon Hill.

What a hog roast costs

A few things make the biggest difference to the price:

  • The serving time and how long we are on site
  • How easy it is to reach the spot
  • Distance from us
  • Whether you want china

Published UK guides give a wide range for hog roast catering, from around £10 a head for a basic roll to £20 or more with sides and service. Every event gets its own quote, so you know exactly what you’re paying for.

What we need to know

When you contact us, please mention:

  • Where the roaster could go, ideally with a photo
  • The address or postcode
  • Anything the venue has asked for
  • The date and when you’d like to eat

We need a few details to quote: your date, your venue or postcode, how many people and any menu choices. Fill in our quote form.

About the food

Halloumi and vegetable skewers (V)

Not everyone eats meat, so halloumi and vegetable skewers make sure they’re not left with just salad.

Spit-roast lamb

Adding lamb gives people a choice of two roasts, which works well for larger groups.

FAQs for Uffington

How far is Uffington from London?

Roughly 63 miles from the centre of London, and well within our area.

We’re gathering after a service at Church of St Mary: can you cater?

Yes, at a nearby hall, home or venue with room to cook outside. Food is generally served at the reception venue rather than the church. Send us the address.

How big a hog will we need?

The roast is chosen to suit how many you are feeding, so a good estimate matters. We will confirm the menu in the quote.

Can you roast in the rain?

We roast under cover, so the food isn’t affected. Plan somewhere sheltered for eating.

What about coeliacs?

We can provide gluten-free rolls if you ask. Ask for the allergen list, as stuffing normally contains gluten.

Do you clear up?

Our staff clear up after service, and leave the area tidy.

Is all of Oxfordshire covered?

We cover Oxfordshire and the rest of London and the South East. Send us the address and we’ll quote.

Do we need a big space?

Many gardens are big enough, as long as we can get the equipment in. A picture helps us check.

  • Roasted on site for several hours, outdoors under cover
  • Freshly carved pork with crackling, stuffing and apple sauce
  • Vegetarian and vegan choices, plus lamb or chicken if you like
  • Served by our staff at the time you choose, then cleared away
