Hog roast hire in Upper Basildon, slow-roasted on site

A hog roast is one of the simplest ways to feed a crowd in Upper Basildon: a single slow roast, carved to order. We bring the roaster, the cover and the serving kit, and our staff serve and clear. For christmas parties and weddings, day or evening, we will put together a menu of crackling, spit-roast lamb and halloumi skewers.

In a small place like Upper Basildon, a hog roast frequently goes in a field, a farmyard or a big garden. Country lanes and long drives are fine if we know about them, and firm, level ground matters most. Your quote spells out what’s included: the date, the serving time, the menu and the plates.

What we serve, dish by dish

Rolls and gluten-free rolls

A hog roast roll is designed to be eaten in the hand. We can bring gluten-free rolls if you ask.

Halloumi and vegetable skewers (V)

Halloumi and vegetable skewers are the vegetarian choice: squeaky, salty cheese with colourful veg.

How it works

When we arrive, we position the roaster under cover and get the hog cooking. From there it cooks low and slow for hours, timed so it’s ready when you want to eat. Evenings in Upper Basildon stay light until about 9:25pm in June, but by late September sunset is around 7:10pm; once it’s dark, we need light at the carving station.

  1. You tell us the date, the address, rough numbers and when you’d like to eat.
  2. We check availability and the space for the roaster and send a clear quote.
  3. On the day, we set up on the agreed spot and start roasting.
  4. We carve and serve when you’re ready to eat.
  5. Afterwards we clear up and leave the spot tidy.

Preparing for the day

  • Plan somewhere sheltered for people to eat if it rains
  • Plan a step-free way in for the equipment

FAQs for Upper Basildon

Is Upper Basildon close to London?

About 45 miles from central London, and we cover it as standard.

Do you cater at venues in the North Wessex Downs National Landscape?

Yes, though some venues in protected landscapes have extra rules for caterers; ask your venue. We will work to whatever the site needs.

Do you bring plates?

We supply plates as standard. You can upgrade to china if you prefer.

Do you clear up?

Our staff clear up after service, leaving the spot as we found it.

What is hog roast hire?

We bring the roaster, roast the hog on site for hours, then our chef carves it and our staff serve, with stuffing, apple sauce and crackling.

Can we have lamb or chicken?

The hog is the centrepiece, but lamb and chicken can be added.

What space does the roaster need?

Roughly the footprint of a gazebo or two, on level ground, well clear of walls, tents and branches. We will confirm the space with your quote.

What about coeliacs?

We can supply gluten-free rolls on request. You will get allergen details for everything.

Is a hog roast right for your event?

Next to a street-food van, a hog roast serves a lot of people from one roast. When comparing prices, compare the same things: the menu, sides, service time, staffing, crockery and travel. The cheapest quote is not always the best value.

Why us?

  • Sides to make it a full meal
  • Carved by our chef in front of your guests
  • Halloumi skewers and a vegan option too
  • Our staff serve and clear

Read our prices page and the cost guide.

Planning for dietary needs

Standard rolls and stuffing contain gluten, so ask for gluten-free rolls if you need them. A few more tips:

  • Put the menu on the invitation
  • Add a dietary question to your invitations
  • Find out who doesn’t eat pork, and order an alternative for them
  • Label the vegetarian and vegan food clearly

If timings shift, tell us: we can hold the roast for a while.

Ask for gluten-free rolls for anyone who needs them.

What the cooking area needs

Before the day, it helps to think about where the roaster will go. We look for:

  • Flat outdoor ground for the roaster and a gazebo
  • Vehicle access close to the cooking area
  • Nothing overhead that could catch the heat

If in doubt, send us a picture of the spot and we’ll advise before booking.

The price comes down to:

  • The number of people

Choosing a hog roast caterer

Organising for someone else?

Marquee suppliers generally set distances for cooking equipment, so let them know about the roaster. The roaster stays a safe distance from the marquee.

For workplace bookings, check with facilities about gas equipment and vehicle access. We work to the site’s rules.

  • Cooked where you are, slowly, over several hours outdoors
  • Freshly carved pork with crackling, stuffing and apple sauce
  • Not just pork: spit-roast lamb, chicken and vegetarian choices
  • Served by our staff at the time you choose, then cleared away
