About the food

Rotisserie chicken

Golden rotisserie chicken goes into rolls or onto plates.

Salads, potatoes and coleslaw

Add salads, coleslaw and potatoes to make it a proper meal, especially at a sit-down event.

Catered or do it yourself?

Timing is the tricky part of roasting your own: a whole hog takes hours, and it needs to be cooked through safely. If that sounds stressful, choose the catered option.

You could roast a hog yourself, but it is a long day’s work, from setting up and lighting the roaster to carving. With us catering, you get to be a host, not a cook.

Looking after everyone

Most people love a hog roast, but it is pork. Here’s how to cover everyone:

  • Put the menu on the invitation
  • Stuffing normally contains gluten, so ask for the allergen list
  • If anyone needs halal food, plan a separate option
  • Add a dietary question to your invitations

You will not need to worry about the food on the day. We get there early, cook, carve and serve, and our staff clear the serving area afterwards.

Salads, coleslaw and potatoes make it a full meal, and they’re listed in your quote.

For planners, venues and organisers

Organisers may ask for documents such as a risk assessment or gas safety information. Let us know what your event requires and we will tell you what we can send.

If you are planning an event on someone’s behalf, whether you’re a planner, a PA or on a committee, let us know who we will deal with on the day. We’ll keep you both updated.

Common questions in Yorkletts

Which station is closest to Yorkletts?

The closest is Whitstable station, roughly 2.6 miles away.

Can you roast near the sea around Yorkletts?

Yes. Wind is something we plan for: a sheltered spot and secure cover.

Will people get crackling?

Crackling is part of every roll for anyone who wants it.

Can you cater for vegetarians?

There are lamb, chicken, vegetarian and vegan options: spit-roast lamb, rotisserie chicken, halloumi and vegetable skewers or a vegan burger or sausage. We don’t offer halal meat.

Will there be enough to go round?

Quantities are based on your numbers, and we’ll talk it through when we quote.

What meats can we have?

The hog is the centrepiece, but lamb and chicken can be added.

How much does a hog roast cost?

Each event is priced on its own, based on numbers, menu, service time and distance. Tell us about your event for a quote.

When do you start roasting?

Hours rather than minutes. You’ll know our arrival time in advance.

Why choose a hog roast in Yorkletts?

Next to a street-food van, a hog roast feeds a crowd quickly from one roast. For larger numbers, a hog roast is usually good value, because one whole roast feeds a lot of people. The menu, extras such as china and the serving time all affect the final price.

Late September evenings in Yorkletts lose the light at about 7:00pm, and at Christmas it comes at about 3:50pm. After dark, a lit path to the food makes a difference.

Planning a hog roast in Yorkletts

Yorkletts is about 2 miles south-west of Whitstable, in Kent. Wherever your event is in Yorkletts, we can bring the roaster, as long as there is an outdoor spot to cook. Yorkletts is one of 922 places in Kent where we cater.

If guests are travelling by rail, the closest railway station is Whitstable station, roughly 2.6 miles north-east of the centre. A green space like Foxes Cross Bottom is tempting, but a gas-fired roaster there needs the landowner’s say-so, typically the council’s. Yorkletts is within about 3 miles of the sea, and coastal sites can be windy. We think about wind when choosing the cooking spot and putting up the cover.

For events in CT5, we just need to know where the roaster can cook and a serving time. Your event could be at a house on Ford Walk, Glen Walk and Coombe Walk, as long as there’s somewhere outside to cook. If your venue is just outside Yorkletts, we also cover Denstroude (1 mile south-east), Honey Hill (2 miles south-east), Whitstable (2 miles north-east), Blean (2 miles south-east) and Radfall (3 miles east). Within a short drive, we also cover Ashford (14 miles south-west), Canterbury (5 miles south-east), Sittingbourne (12 miles west), Faversham (5 miles west), Herne Bay (6 miles north-east) and Minster (11 miles north-west).

A little further out are Tankerton Castle (2.9 miles north-east) and Whitstable and Tankerton Hospital (3.2 miles north-east). Green spaces nearby include Blean Woods RSPB Reserve.
