A hog roast or other catering?

DIY or catered? DIY hire works for relaxed get-togethers; catering suits bigger or more important parties. Most of the cost is the meat, the staff and the time on site. A long, slow roast means an early start, which is built into the price.

Why Cadnam hosts choose us

  • No surprises: everything in writing
  • Our staff serve and clear
  • We bring everything to cook and serve
  • A choice of salads and potatoes

Take a look at our prices page or our hog roast cost guide.

What a hog roast costs

There’s no fixed price list, since every event is different. The main factors are:

  • How many people are eating
  • The date and time of year
  • Time on site
  • Which meats and sides you choose

Compare like for like: menu, sides, serving time, staff, plates and travel. The cheapest quote isn’t always the best value.

What to tell us

Good details mean a good quote. Useful details:

  • The address or postcode
  • Any dietary needs or allergies
  • A photo of the cooking area
  • Anything the venue has asked for

For a quote, send us a few details: your date, your venue or postcode, how many people and any menu choices. Send us your details through our quote form.

Planning for dietary needs

You will get allergen information for everything we serve. To make the most of it:

  • Halal isn’t offered, so arrange it separately if needed
  • Count non-pork eaters so we can bring chicken or a vegetarian option
  • Let us know roughly how many children
  • Keep the vegetarian option labelled

Ensure the gate or side passage is open when we arrive, so we can bring everything through.

China crockery is available on request, quoted separately.

Rotisserie chicken

Chicken off the rotisserie, carved or jointed goes into rolls or onto plates.

Rolls and gluten-free rolls

We can serve in rolls or on plates, and gluten-free rolls are available on request.

The process

Expect a calm, organised set-up. Arrival and serving times are agreed beforehand, set up where we have agreed, and get on with roasting and serving. At midsummer, it is light in Cadnam until about 9:25pm, so a garden party can run well into the evening. In late September it’s dark by about 7:10pm; add lights for the evening.

  1. It starts with the date, the address and a rough guest list.
  2. You get a check on the date and the cooking spot, and a quote.
  3. We arrive in good time and start roasting.
  4. We carve and serve at the agreed time.
  5. We clear up and pack away.

Before we arrive

  • Keep the spot clear of buildings, marquee walls and overhanging branches
  • Name a contact for the day
  • Collect dietary needs and allergies in advance

Christenings and naming days often start at a local church such as Church of St Mary, with a hog roast at home or in a hall afterwards. Historic houses near Cadnam include Landford Manor (4.6 miles north-west). For most parties, a garden or hall is easier than a historic venue with strict catering rules. Planning the cooking spot

It is worth planning the cooking area in advance. We look for:

  • Neighbours warned about the smell

If in doubt, send us a picture of the spot and we will advise before you book.
