A hog roast near Chalk
How our party hog roast works in Chalk
A party at home needs a little planning for the roaster: level ground outdoors, clear of the house and fences. We’ll help you choose. We are often asked to cater big birthday parties and engagement parties, serving jacket potatoes, crackling and rotisserie chicken.
Country parties near Chalk suit a hog roast: slow-roasted and eaten outside. Have a covered area for guests in wet weather. Everything is cooked on the day, at your venue, slowly, over several hours.
For event organisers in Chalk
For workplace bookings, ask your facilities team about outside caterers and gas cooking. We work to the site’s rules.
If you’re planning an event on someone’s behalf, such as a wedding planner, an office manager or a fête committee, tell us who our contact on the day will be. We will keep you both updated.

A hog roast or other catering?
Compared with takeaway pizzas, the roast is an event in itself. What you pay covers the meat, the chef and staff, and hours of roasting. Slow roasting means we’re on site for much of the day, and the quote reflects that.

- Find out who doesn’t eat pork so we can bring chicken or a vegetarian option
- Add a dietary question to the invite
- Request gluten-free rolls
If the party runs late, the roast can wait a little, so tell us if timings change.
Ask about china for a sit-down party, at extra cost.
Prices and what affects them
Here’s what affects the price:
- Site access
- The menu and extras such as lamb or chicken
- How long the roast and service take
- Travel to Chalk
Extras such as lamb, chicken, more sides or china crockery add to the cost, so each one is itemised. A simple menu keeps the cost down.
What we need to know
Good details mean a good quote. Please include:
- Where the roaster could go, ideally with a picture
- Roughly how many people
- The venue or postcode
- The date and when you’d like to eat
Every party is quoted on its own, based on numbers, menu, timings and distance. Tell us about your party for a quote: use our quote form.
Planning the cooking spot
The roaster needs space, cover and a safe distance from anything that could catch the heat. Before booking, check:
- Space for our vehicle near the drive
- A word with the neighbours
- A level spot in the garden, on the patio or drive
If in doubt, send us a picture of the spot and we’ll advise.

Step by step
We cook on a gas-fired roaster, so cooking doesn’t depend on mains power. At midsummer, it’s light in Chalk until about 9:20pm, which gives a garden party a long evening. In late September it is dark by about 7:00pm; add lights for the evening.
- Send us your party date, address, numbers and serving time.
- You get a check on the date and the cooking spot, and a quote.
- On the day we arrive hours ahead and start the roast under cover.
- Our chef carves and our staff serve when you are ready.
- Afterwards we tidy up the serving area.
Preparing for the day
- Let us know about tight access
- Make sure the cooking area is away from walls, tents and trees

Common questions in Chalk
How far is Chalk from London?
About 22 miles from central London, and we cover it as standard.
Can you cater after a service at Church of St Mary?
Yes, at a home, hall or venue nearby with an outdoor spot for the roaster. Churches rarely have space for a hog roast, so the food is usually elsewhere. Tell us where you’ll gather.
What about the neighbours?
It’s worth warning them: the roast cooks for hours and the smell travels. They may want a roll.
Can you roast in the rain?
We cook under a gazebo, so rain isn’t a problem for the roast. Somewhere covered for people to eat helps.
Can we hire the machine and cook it ourselves?
DIY machine hire is available. We’ll confirm what comes with it and how to use it.
Do you serve the food?
You do not need anyone else: our chef carves and our team serves and clears.
Is crockery included?
We supply plates as standard. China is available at an extra cost.
How soon do you get booked up?
The earlier the better for popular dates. But it’s always worth asking: send us your details through our quote form.
