Step by step

Service is quick once we start carving: our chef carves and our staff fill the rolls or plates, and sides go out at the same time. Afterwards we clear the serving area and pack away. In Filmore Hill, late May sunsets come at about 8:55pm and midsummer ones at about 9:20pm, so most summer parties eat in daylight. After about 4:00pm in December, we need light to carve.

  1. Show us the garden or drive.
  2. We check the space and quote.
  3. We cook for hours on site.
  4. We serve when you’re ready.
  5. We clear up so you do not have to.

Before we arrive

  • Pick a flat, open area outside for cooking
  • Plan somewhere sheltered for people to eat if it rains
  • Give us final numbers a week or so before

Is a hog roast right for your party?

Next to ordering takeaway, a hog roast is part of the party, not just the food. UK price guides vary widely: roughly £10 a head for a simple roll, rising past £20 with more included. We quote every event individually, with everything listed.

What you get with us

  • Slow-roasted at your venue, not reheated
  • Rolls with stuffing, apple sauce and crackling
  • Carved by our chef in front of your guests
  • Salads, potatoes and coleslaw to go with it

Looking after everyone

Most people love a hog roast, but it is pork. Some ways to look after everyone:

  • Tell us how many vegetarians and vegans to expect
  • Request gluten-free rolls
  • Let us know roughly how many children
  • Ask about allergies on the invitation

Our chef carves and our staff serve at the agreed time, then clear up the serving area.

Ask for gluten-free rolls if needed.

Vegan burger or sausage (Ve)

Our vegan option is a vegan burger or sausage, served in a roll with salads.

Halloumi and vegetable skewers (V)

Vegetarians get halloumi and vegetable skewers, a hot, filling option of their own.

For event organisers in Filmore Hill

Planning on behalf of a committee? A single point of contact keeps things simple, particularly when timings shift.

Venues frequently have rules for outside caterers, from approved lists to where a gas roaster can go. Ask early, and pass on anything they need from us.

What a hog roast costs

The price comes down to:

  • Season and day of the week
  • Distance from us
  • Access to the cooking area
  • Which meats and sides you choose

Most of the cost is the meat, the staff and the time on site. Slow roasting means we are on site for much of the day, and the quote reflects that.

Details that help

A few details help us give you an accurate quote. Here’s what to include:

  • The date and when you’d like to eat
  • Your menu choices
  • Rules from the venue or landowner
  • Any dietary needs or allergies

We price every booking individually, based on numbers, menu, timings and distance. Ask us for a quote for your party: use our quote form.

Catered or do it yourself?

Timing is the tricky part of roasting your own: a big roast takes hours and must be cooked thoroughly. If you’d rather not worry about it, let us cook.

You could roast a hog yourself, but it’s a long day’s work, from setting up and lighting the roaster to carving. With us catering, you get to be a host, not a cook.

Filmore Hill questions

Can you do a hog roast at a venue in the South Downs National Park?

Yes. Some venues there have rules about cooking and vehicles, so check with yours. We will work to whatever the site needs.

Is Filmore Hill too small for a hog roast?

No, we come to small places too. Let us know about access and the cooking spot.

Is there a non-pork option?

We can add lamb or chicken, plus halloumi skewers for vegetarians and a vegan burger or sausage. Halal meat is not something we offer.

Do you cover Filmore Hill?

Yes. We cover London and the South East, Filmore Hill and the rest of Hampshire included. Tell us the venue and we’ll quote.

Do you need power or water?

Not to cook, because the roaster is gas-fired. Let us know what’s on site.

Do we need our own staff?

We carve and serve for you, then clear the serving area afterwards.

Where does the hog roast go?

A flat, open spot outside, and a way to wheel everything in. Send us a picture if you are unsure.

Can the hog roast be cooked indoors?

The roaster always stays outside, under cover, at a safe distance from walls and tents. We can often serve indoors if the venue agrees.
