A hog roast near Heath Common
How our party hog roast works in Heath Common
A big birthday deserves a centrepiece, and a whole hog roasting in the garden is exactly that. Your guests will smell it from the street. We’re often asked to cater big family get-togethers and christenings and naming days, with apple sauce, rotisserie chicken and jacket potatoes.
Country parties near Heath Common suit a hog roast: slow-roasted and eaten outside. Plan shelter in case it rains. Everything is cooked on the day, at your venue, slowly, over several hours, then carved fresh for your guests.

Planning the cooking spot
Most gardens, car parks, yards and fields work if a few things are right. Here’s what we look for:
- A gazebo, marquee or room indoors for guests if it rains
- Space for our vehicle near the drive
- A level patio, lawn or driveway
If you’re unsure, send a picture of the space and the way in, and we will say what we think.
What we serve
- Coleslaw
- Vegan burger or sausage (Ve)
- Rotisserie chicken
- Hog roast rolls
- Salads
- Stuffing and apple sauce
- Halloumi skewers (V)
- Crackling
- Jacket potatoes
The process
On the day, we set up the roaster on the agreed spot, put the cover up and start the roast. From there it cooks low and slow for hours, worked back from your serving time. In Heath Common, late May sunsets come at about 8:50pm and midsummer ones at about 9:20pm, so most summer parties eat in daylight. After about 3:55pm in December, we need light to carve.
- Tell us about your party: date, address and numbers.
- We check the garden or drive and quote.
- We arrive early and get the roast going.
- At food time, the chef carves and we serve.
- We tidy up and pack away.
Before we arrive
- Plan somewhere sheltered for people to eat if it rains
- Make sure we can wheel the roaster to the spot
- Send final numbers in good time

We are gathering after a service at Church of the Holy Sepulchre: can you cater?
Yes, at a home, hall or venue nearby with an outdoor spot for the roaster. Churches rarely have space for a hog roast, so the food is generally elsewhere. Send us the address.

Can you cater in Heath Common?
We do. Send us the address and we’ll confirm availability.

We pack everything away after service, so you’re not left with the mess.
Can you do gluten-free?

Can we cook it ourselves?
Yes, DIY machine hire is available. We’ll talk you through it when we quote.
Can the hog roast be cooked indoors?
The roaster always stays outside, under cover, at a safe distance from walls and tents. Serving inside is frequently possible, with the venue’s agreement.

What comes off the roaster
Rolls and gluten-free rolls
A hog roast roll is designed to be eaten in the hand. We can bring gluten-free rolls if you ask.
Stuffing and apple sauce
Apple sauce brings sweetness and sharpness go with the pork perfectly. Stuffing normally contains gluten.
Catered or do it yourself?
DIY hire works best when someone in the family loves cooking. For bigger or more formal events, catering takes the pressure off.
The hardest part of a DIY hog roast is timing: a whole hog takes hours, and it needs to be cooked through safely. If you’d rather not worry about it, let us cook.
Allergies and dietary needs
We give full allergen information for every dish. To help:
- Check the allergen list, as stuffing usually contains gluten
- Ask for gluten-free rolls if anyone needs them
- Find out who doesn’t eat pork for the alternatives
- Tell us how many vegetarians and vegans to expect
We get there early to start the roast, so the smell is the first thing guests notice.
Ask for gluten-free rolls if needed.
Why choose a hog roast in Heath Common?
Compared with takeaway pizzas, a hog roast is part of the party, not just the food. Distance is part of the price: we include travel in the quote, with any London charges listed. Give us the address for an accurate figure.
Why us?
- Sides to make it a full meal
- Cooked on the day, low and slow
- Lamb, chicken and vegetarian options alongside
- No surprises: everything in writing
See our prices page or the cost guide.
Working with your venue
For events on land you don’t own, such as a park or field, the landowner needs to agree to cooking and vehicles. Get that agreed before booking.
Event organisers often ask caterers for paperwork such as a risk assessment. Tell us what you need and we’ll tell you what we can send.
