The roaster needs space, cover and a safe distance from anything that could catch the heat. Before booking, check:

  • A word with the neighbours
  • Flat ground in the garden or on the drive
  • A step-free way into the garden

If you’re unsure, send a photo of the space and the way in, and we will say what we think.

How we price a hog roast for your party

Each price is built from:

  • Whether you want china
  • How many people are eating
  • Which meats and sides you choose
  • Distance from us

What you pay covers the meat, the chef and staff, and hours of roasting. A long, slow roast means an early start, which is built into the price.

Details that help

The more we know, the more accurate the quote. Useful details:

  • What the outdoor space is like
  • The date and time of the event
  • Any venue rules
  • An estimate of numbers

Busy weekends book up early, especially summer Saturdays and December Fridays. Tell us your date and we’ll check it: use our quote form.

About the food

Vegan burger or sausage (Ve)

A plant-based burger or sausage covers vegans, served in a roll with salads.

Salads, potatoes and coleslaw

Sides include salads, coleslaw, new potatoes and roast or jacket potatoes, depending on the season and the occasion.

Looking after everyone

A little planning helps everyone eat safely. A few tips:

  • Tell us how many vegetarians and vegans to expect
  • Halal isn’t offered, so arrange it separately if needed
  • Ask for gluten-free rolls if anyone needs them
  • Count non-pork eaters for the alternatives

A cooked roast holds for a while, so just let us know.

Gluten-free rolls are available on request.

Is a hog roast right for your party?

Next to doing it all yourself, a catered hog roast gives you the day back. Travel matters for the price: we include travel in the quote. Give us the address so the quote is accurate.

Parties in Hoo: homes, halls and local tips

Hoo is about 5 miles south-west of Margate, in Kent. We cater parties across Hoo and nearby, from gardens to fields. Hoo is one of 922 towns and villages in Kent we cover. Our nearest city page is Canterbury, about 10 miles away.

Nearby historic houses include Quex Park (2.4 miles north-east). For most parties, a garden or hall is easier than a historic venue with strict catering rules. Christenings and naming days frequently start at a local church such as Church of Saint Mary the Virgin, with a hog roast at home or in a hall afterwards. The coast is within about 6 miles, so breezy days are common, and we always plan for it.

Parties anywhere in CT12 start with an outdoor spot for the roaster and roughly how many guests. Whether your party is on Monkton Road, Hoo Farm Way and Sheriffs Court Lane or anywhere nearby, we can set up and roast there. Neighbouring places where we cater parties include Monkton (1 mile west), St Nicholas at Wade (2 miles north-west), Westmarsh (2 miles south-west), East Stourmouth (2 miles south-west) and Sarre (2 miles west). Within a short drive, we also cover Canterbury (10 miles south-west), Margate (5 miles north-east), Dover (14 miles south), Ramsgate (5 miles east), Broadstairs (6 miles east) and Whitstable (11 miles west).

Nearby you will also find Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother Hospital (5 miles north-east) and Powell-Cotton Museum (2.2 miles north). Within reach you’ll find Sandwich and Pegwell Bay.

  • Pubs nearby include The Bell Inn (0.9 miles south-east)

For planners, venues and organisers

Marquee hire companies frequently have rules about cooking near their tents, so tell them a hog roast is coming. The roaster stays a safe distance from the marquee.

Organisers may ask for documents such as a risk assessment or gas safety information. Let us know what your event requires and we will confirm what we can provide.

Hoo: your questions answered

Is Hoo close to London?

Roughly 61 miles from the centre of London.

What about windy coastal sites?

Yes. We roast under cover and choose a sheltered spot where we can.

What space does the roaster need?

A flat, open spot outside, and a way to wheel everything in. A photo helps.

Do you leave the area tidy?

We clear the serving area and pack away, leaving the spot as we found it.

What about the neighbours?

A friendly word helps: roasting takes hours. They may want a roll.

Can you cater for vegetarians?

Add lamb, chicken, halloumi and vegetable skewers or a vegan option. We do not offer halal meat.

How far ahead should we book?

Summer Saturdays and December book up first. For other dates, a few weeks can be enough. Ask and we will check.

Is mains power needed?

No, the roast is cooked on gas. Let us know what’s on site.

Full catering or machine hire?

The hardest part of a DIY hog roast is timing: a big roast takes hours and must be cooked thoroughly. If that sounds stressful, choose the catered option.

Some hosts try a barbecue instead, but someone has to stand at the grill all day. A hog roast cooks in one go and is carved for everyone.

The process

Serving is straightforward: our chef carves and our staff fill the rolls or plates, and sides go out at the same time. Afterwards we clear the serving area and pack away. By late September, sunset in Hoo is about 7:00pm; by December it’s about 3:50pm. Light the garden path and the serving area.

  1. Start with the date, the address and roughly how many.
  2. We check the garden or drive and quote.
  3. We arrive early and get the roast going.
  4. At food time, the chef carves and we serve.
  5. We tidy up and pack away.

Getting ready for the day

  • Gather dietary requirements early
  • Make sure we can wheel the roaster to the spot
