How our party hog roast works in Westmarsh

A party hog roast turns a garden party into an occasion. We roast on site in Westmarsh, then carve at the time you choose, so you can enjoy your own party. We serve apple sauce, a vegan burger or sausage and jacket potatoes, and we’re regularly asked to cater leaving and retirement do’s and 18th, 21st, 40th, 50th and 60th birthdays.

A country party near Westmarsh is perfect for a hog roast: roasted all afternoon and carved on the lawn. Have a covered area for guests in wet weather. Let us know about allergies and dietary needs in advance, and we’ll tell you exactly what’s in each dish before you book.

Step by step

When we arrive, we position the roaster under cover and get the hog cooking. From there it cooks low and slow for hours, timed so it’s ready when you want to eat. By late September, sunset in Westmarsh is about 7:00pm; by December it is about 3:50pm. Light the garden path and the serving area.

  1. Send a picture of where the roaster could go.
  2. We check the space and quote.
  3. We cook for hours on site.
  4. Our staff serve rolls and sides.
  5. We clear up so you do not have to.

Preparing for the day

  • Name a contact for the day
  • Choose a level, open spot outdoors for the roaster
  • Think about shelter for your guests

Westmarsh: your questions answered

What’s the nearest station to Westmarsh?

The closest is Minster station, roughly 2.6 miles away.

Is Westmarsh too small for a hog roast?

No, we come to small places too. Let us know about access and the cooking spot.

When should we book?

Popular dates go early. But it’s always worth asking: use our quote form.

Will a hog roast fit in our garden?

Describe the space and the way in, and we’ll give you an honest answer.

Will there be enough to go round?

The roast is chosen to suit how many you’re feeding, so tell us your best estimate. We’ll confirm the menu in the quote.

Can you work around our timings?

We’ll be as flexible as we can. Give us a contact on the day and we’ll adjust.

When do you start roasting?

Hours rather than minutes. You’ll know our arrival time in advance.

Can we hire the hog roast machine for our party?

You can hire the machine. We’ll explain what’s supplied and how it works.

DIY versus a catered hog roast

The hardest part of a DIY hog roast is timing: a big roast takes hours and must be cooked thoroughly. If you’d rather not worry about it, let us cook.

You could roast a hog yourself, but it is a long day’s work, from early set-up to carving at the end. With us catering, you get to be a host, not a cook.

Working with your venue

If you’re planning an event on someone’s behalf, such as a wedding planner, an office manager or a fête committee, let us know who we’ll deal with on the day. We’ll keep everyone in the loop.

For events on land you do not own, such as a park or field, you will need the landowner’s permission for cooking and vehicles. Get that agreed before booking.

Before you choose a spot

It’s worth planning the cooking area in advance. We look for:

  • Neighbours warned about the smell
  • Flat ground in the garden or on the drive
  • A step-free way into the garden

Not sure about the cooking spot? Send us a photo and we will tell you honestly before you book.

What affects the price in Westmarsh

Each price is built from:

  • Access to the cooking area
  • Busy dates such as summer Saturdays
  • The menu and extras such as lamb or chicken
  • Plates or china

The main driver is numbers: the price per head generally falls as numbers rise, since much of the cost is fixed.

Getting an accurate quote

These are the details we need:

  • Any dietary needs or allergies
  • Anything the venue has asked for
  • The venue or postcode
  • Rough numbers

The quickest way to get a price is to tell us the date, where the party is and roughly how many. A picture of the cooking area helps. Send us your details through our quote form.

Is a hog roast right for your party?

Compared with a restaurant booking, you keep the party at home, with room for everyone. When comparing prices, compare the same things: menu, sides, serving time, staff, plates and travel. A cheaper headline price can leave things out.

Why Westmarsh hosts choose us

  • The classics: stuffing, apple sauce and crackling
  • Carved by our chef in front of your guests
  • Planned to your running order
  • Self-contained: roaster, cover and serving kit

Take a look at our pricing and our hog roast cost guide.

The menu, dish by dish

Roast pork

Everything starts with the slow-roasted pork: carved in front of you, a mix of shoulder and leg, and served hot.

Halloumi and vegetable skewers (V)

Some guests will be vegetarian, and halloumi skewers give them a proper hot option.

Planning for dietary needs

A little planning helps everyone eat safely. Here are a few tips:

  • Ask for gluten-free rolls if anyone needs them
  • Ask us to label vegetarian and vegan food
  • Tell us how many vegetarians and vegans to expect
  • Remember stuffing normally contains gluten

We set up where we agreed and stay out of the way, so the party carries on around us.

Add coleslaw, salads and jacket potatoes to make it a full meal.
