How our party hog roast works in Keyhaven

In Keyhaven, a hog roast is a favourite for birthdays and garden parties: hearty food that feeds everyone at once. We serve and tidy up. Typical bookings include christenings and 18th, 21st, 40th, 50th and 60th birthdays, serving apple sauce, jacket potatoes and hog roast rolls.

Country parties near Keyhaven suit a hog roast: roasted all afternoon and carved on the lawn. Have a covered area for guests in wet weather. Our chef carves in front of your guests, so the pork is hot and the crackling is crisp.

For planners, venues and organisers

If you are booking for a workplace, ask your facilities team about outside caterers and gas cooking. We work to the site’s rules.

Some venues add a fee for outside caterers, so check before booking. We will liaise with them on access and set-up.

How the day works

When we arrive, we position the roaster under cover and get the hog cooking. From there it cooks low and slow for hours, worked back from your serving time. Sunset in Keyhaven is about 8:55pm in late May and 9:25pm in late June, so an early-evening carve is typically in daylight. After about 4:05pm in December, we need light to carve.

  1. Start with the date, the address and roughly how many.
  2. We check the space and send a price.
  3. We set up hours ahead.
  4. We carve and serve at food time.
  5. We clear the serving area and go.

Preparing for the day

  • Confirm numbers ahead of the day
  • Check there is nothing overhead or close by that could catch the heat
  • Pick a flat, open area outside for cooking

What the cooking area needs

The cooking area is the main thing to plan. Check these:

  • A heads-up for next door
  • A wet-weather plan for guests
  • A side gate or passage wide enough to wheel the equipment

If in doubt, send us a picture of the spot and we will advise.

What a hog roast costs

The biggest factors are:

  • How many people are eating
  • Busy dates such as summer Saturdays
  • Time on site
  • The menu and extras such as lamb or chicken

The main driver is numbers: the price per head typically falls as numbers rise, since much of the cost is fixed.

Getting an accurate quote

We can quote more accurately with a few details. Here’s what to include:

  • Anything the venue has asked for
  • A picture of the cooking area
  • The date and time of the event
  • Which meats and sides you’d like

A hog roast or other catering?

Compared with a restaurant booking, a hog roast at home lets everyone relax in the garden. UK price guides vary widely: roughly £10 a head for a simple roll, rising past £20 with more included. Every event gets its own quote, so you know exactly what you’re paying for.

Why book with us

  • A choice of salads and potatoes
  • Our staff serve and clear
  • Halloumi skewers and a vegan option too
  • Timed around your day

See how we price or the cost guide.

Full catering or machine hire?

Timing is the tricky part of roasting your own: a big roast takes hours and must be cooked thoroughly. If that sounds stressful, choose the catered option.

We also hire out the hog roast machine for confident cooks. You do the roasting and carving; we’ll confirm what comes with it when you ask.

Planning for dietary needs

Not everyone eats pork, so plan an alternative. A few pointers:

  • Ask for gluten-free rolls if anyone needs them
  • Let us know roughly how many children
  • Collect dietary needs when guests reply
  • Find out who does not eat pork so we can bring chicken or a vegetarian option

Ensure the gate or side passage is open when we arrive, so we can wheel the equipment in.

Ask for gluten-free rolls if needed.

Common questions in Keyhaven

What’s the nearest station to Keyhaven?

Lymington Town station, about 3 miles north-east of the centre.

Can you do a hog roast at a venue in the New Forest National Park?

Yes. Some venues there have rules about cooking and vehicles, so check with yours. We will follow the site rules.

Do we need a marquee for a party hog roast?

Not for the cooking, but a gazebo or indoor space for guests is a good backup.

Do children like hog roasts?

Generally, yes, so we get the amounts right.

Do you do DIY hog roast hire?

We do, if you’re happy to roast and carve yourself. Ask and we’ll talk you through it.

What if it rains?

We cook under a gazebo, so rain is not a problem for the roast. Somewhere covered for people to eat helps.

How do you work out quantities?

We size the roast to your numbers, so a good estimate matters. The quote sets it out.

What if things run late?

We’ll be as flexible as we can. Keep us posted on the day and we will adjust.

  • Slow-roasted on site for hours, outdoors at your event
  • Our chef carves the pork, with stuffing, apple sauce and crackling on the side
  • Lamb, chicken and vegetarian options alongside the pork
  • Served by our staff at the time you choose, then cleared away
