Slow-roasted pork in Lymore

Why a carved hog roast beats a buffet

DIY or catered? DIY suits confident cooks and relaxed parties; catering suits bigger or more important parties. When comparing prices, compare the same things: the menu, sides, service time, staffing, crockery and travel. A cheaper headline price can leave things out.

What you get with us

  • The classics: stuffing, apple sauce and crackling
  • Carved by our chef in front of your guests
  • Planned to your running order
  • Choices for people who don’t eat pork

Should I cook it myself?

You could roast a hog yourself, but it is a long day’s work, from setting up and lighting the roaster to carving. A catered hog roast means you can enjoy the day.

We also hire out the hog roast machine for confident cooks. You cook and carve it yourself; we’ll confirm what comes with it when you ask.

Planners, venues and businesses

For events on land you don’t own, such as a park or field, the landowner needs to agree to cooking and vehicles. Sort that first.

If you are planning an event on someone’s behalf, such as a wedding planner, an office manager or a fête committee, let us know who we’ll deal with on the day. We’ll keep everyone in the loop.

Looking after everyone

A little planning helps everyone eat safely. Here are a few tips:

  • Check the allergen list, as stuffing generally contains gluten
  • Find out who does not eat pork so we can bring chicken or a vegetarian option
  • Keep the vegetarian option labelled
  • Give us numbers for vegetarians and vegans

Have a word with the neighbours first: roasting takes hours and the smell travels, and they may ask for a roll.

A string of lights by the carving station looks great as it gets dark.

How the day works

Service is quick once we start carving: our chef carves and our staff fill the rolls or plates, and sides go out at the same time. When everyone has eaten, we clear up and leave the spot tidy. A summer party in Lymore stays light until about 9:25pm at midsummer, so a garden party can run well into the evening. By late September sunset is around 7:10pm, so plan festoon lights for later parties.

  1. It starts with the date, the address and a rough guest list.
  2. We check the date and the garden or drive, then send a quote.
  3. We set up early and get the hog roasting.
  4. When it is time to eat, the chef carves and we serve.
  5. Afterwards we tidy up the serving area.

Before we arrive

  • Pick a flat, open area outside for cooking
  • Ask about allergies and dietary needs beforehand
  • Choose someone to meet us on arrival
