Planning a London party in North Brixton? A hog roast keeps you out of the kitchen, at home or a hall with a garden. A long roast means a word with the neighbours. Timings are planned around your party, because the roast has to start hours before you eat, so the food is ready at the right moment.

A closer look at the menu

Crackling

The skin crisps up over the hours of roasting, and there’s a piece for everyone who wants it.

Salads, potatoes and coleslaw

Sides include salads, coleslaw, new potatoes and roast or jacket potatoes, depending on the season and the occasion.

For planners, venues and organisers

Many venues set rules for outside caterers, from approved lists to where a gas roaster can go. Ask early, and tell us what they ask for.

For events on land you don’t own, such as a park or field, the landowner needs to agree to cooking and vehicles. Get that agreed before booking.

Step by step

A hog roast is always cooked outside, on a level, open spot under cover, away from buildings, marquee walls and overhanging branches. We will agree the spot with you beforehand. At midsummer, it’s light in North Brixton until about 9:20pm, so a garden party can run well into the evening. In late September it is dark by about 7:05pm; add lights for the evening.

  1. Send a picture of where the roaster could go.
  2. We check the space and quote.
  3. We cook for hours on site.
  4. We serve when you’re ready.
  5. We clear up so you do not have to.

North Brixton questions

Could you cook in Max Roach Park?

Only with permission from the park’s owner, generally the council, and many parks don’t allow cooking. Ask them first, and tell us what they say.

Which station is closest to North Brixton?

Loughborough Junction station, about 0.7 miles south-east of the centre.

Is there a non-pork option?

There are lamb, chicken, vegetarian and vegan options: spit-roast lamb, rotisserie chicken, halloumi and vegetable skewers or a vegan burger or sausage. We don’t offer halal meat.

Is clearing up included?

We bring plates and clear up after service.

What if it rains?

The roaster is under cover, so a shower doesn’t stop us. Your guests will want somewhere dry to eat.

Do we need to provide electricity?

Cooking is gas-fired, so no mains power is needed for the roast. Power can help with lighting after dark.

Do you leave the area tidy?

Our staff clear up after service, and leave the area tidy.

Can you do gluten-free?

We can provide gluten-free rolls if you ask. Stuffing usually contains gluten, so check the allergen information.

Planning for dietary needs

A hog roast is pork, so plan for anyone who doesn’t eat it. Some ways to look after everyone:

  • Tell us how many vegetarians and vegans to expect
  • Request gluten-free rolls
  • Plan separately for anyone who needs halal food
  • Add a dietary question to the invite

Have a word with the neighbours first: roasting takes hours and the smell travels, and they may ask for a roll.

Rotisserie chicken is popular at family parties.

  • Slow-roasted on site for hours, outdoors at your event
  • Freshly carved pork with crackling, stuffing and apple sauce
  • Lamb, chicken and vegetarian options alongside the pork
  • Served by our staff at the time you choose, then cleared away
