Party hog roast near Rusper

If you’d rather cook yourself, DIY machine hire is an option. Most hosts prefer us to do it, and spend time with their guests. We serve crackling, coleslaw and apple sauce, and typical bookings are for garden parties and family reunions.

Near Rusper, parties are frequently in gardens or fields. Let us know about access, and we will handle the rest. The carving happens right in front of your guests, so the pork is hot and the crackling is crisp, and nothing sits in a hot cabinet.

Our full booking checklist

Looking after everyone

Some guests won’t eat pork, so it is worth adding an alternative. A few pointers:

  • Check the allergen list, as stuffing generally contains gluten
  • Ask for gluten-free rolls if anyone needs them
  • Ask us to label vegetarian and vegan food
  • Let us know roughly how many children

Our chef carves and our staff serve at the agreed time, then tidy up.

Ask for gluten-free rolls if needed.

Before you choose a spot

The roaster needs space, cover and a safe distance from anything that could catch the heat. Before booking, check:

  • A word with the neighbours
  • A step-free way into the garden
  • Flat ground in the garden or on the drive

Not sure about the cooking spot? Send us a photo and we will tell you honestly before booking.

What comes off the roaster

Crackling

Crackling is what people queue for: golden, crunchy and salty, straight off the hog.

Halloumi and vegetable skewers (V)

Not everyone eats meat, and halloumi skewers give them a proper hot option.

Planning a party in Rusper

Rusper is about 4 miles west of Crawley, in West Sussex. Wherever your party is in Rusper, we can bring the roaster, given a suitable outdoor cooking area. Rusper is one of 371 towns and villages in West Sussex we cover. Our nearest city page is Guildford, about 15 miles away.

If guests are coming by rail, Faygate station, about 1.8 miles south, is the nearest station. The Surrey Hills National Landscape is within about 6 miles of Rusper, so many gardens around here have a great outlook.

Catered or do it yourself?

You could roast a hog yourself, but it is a long day’s work, from setting up and lighting the roaster to carving. With us catering, you get to be a host, not a cook.

Full catering or machine hire? With catering, our chef roasts, carves and serves, and our staff clear up. With DIY hire, you do the work and save on staffing.

How the day works

When we arrive, we set up the roaster on the agreed spot, put the cover up and start the roast. From there it cooks low and slow for hours, timed so it is ready when you want to eat. Sunset in Rusper is about 8:50pm in late May and 9:20pm in late June, so an early-evening carve is usually in daylight. Winter parties, dark by about 3:55pm, need lights by the roaster.

  1. Tell us about your party: date, address and numbers.
  2. We check the garden or drive and quote.
  3. We arrive early and get the roast going.
  4. We carve and serve at food time.
  5. We tidy up and pack away.

How to prepare

  • Gather dietary requirements early
  • Check there’s a route to wheel the equipment in, without steps
  • Give us a contact number for the day

Common questions in Rusper

We are gathering after a service at St Mary Magdalene church: can you cater?

Which station is closest to Rusper?

Faygate station, about 1.8 miles south of the centre.

Where does the hog roast go?

A level, open area outdoors with room for the roaster, a gazebo and a carving table, away from buildings, marquee walls and overhanging trees. We’ll check it with you before booking.

When should we book?

The earlier the better for popular dates. But do ask even at short notice: use our quote form.

When do you start roasting?

It depends on the size of the hog and the weather, but it’s several hours. We will confirm our arrival time when we quote.

Do you come to Rusper?

Yes. We cater across London and the South East, Rusper and the rest of West Sussex included. Tell us the venue and we will quote.
