Cost depends on numbers, menu choices and service time, plus travel and access. There is no one-size price, so we quote each one individually.

How our party hog roast works in South Stoke

Throwing a party is hard work. With a hog roast, the food is sorted: we roast, carve, serve and clear. For retirement celebrations and christenings and naming days, we can cook hog roast rolls, rotisserie chicken and crackling and more.

A country party near South Stoke is perfect for a hog roast: roasted all afternoon and carved on the lawn. Plan shelter in case it rains. We plan the timings around your day, because the roast has to start hours before you eat.

How it works

We roast under cover, so a shower will not spoil the food. Your guests will still want somewhere dry to eat, such as a marquee, hall or barn. In South Stoke, late May sunsets come at about 8:55pm and midsummer ones at about 9:25pm, so most summer parties eat in daylight. Winter parties, dark by about 3:55pm, need lights by the roaster.

  1. Send us your party date, address, numbers and serving time.
  2. You get a check on the date and the cooking spot, and a quote.
  3. On the day we arrive hours ahead and start the roast under cover.
  4. We carve and serve at the agreed time.
  5. Afterwards we tidy up the serving area.

Getting ready for the day

  • Confirm numbers ahead of the day
  • Choose someone to meet us on arrival
  • Make sure the cooking area is away from walls, tents and trees

What we serve, dish by dish

Crackling

Long, slow roasting turns the skin into crackling, and there’s a piece for everyone who wants it.

Rotisserie chicken

For guests who do not eat pork, rotisserie chicken is the easy answer, and children usually like it too.

For event organisers in South Stoke

Marquee suppliers normally set distances for cooking equipment, so let them know about the roaster. We’ll keep the roaster well clear of the marquee.

Organisers may ask for documents such as a risk assessment or gas safety information. Tell us what you need and we’ll tell you what we can send.

Full catering or machine hire?

If you’re confident and want to save on staff, DIY machine hire is an option. You cook and carve it yourself; we will confirm what comes with it when you ask.

DIY hire works best when someone in the family loves cooking. For weddings and bigger events, a catered roast is generally easier.

South Stoke: your questions answered

We are gathering after a service at Church of St Andrew: can you cater?

Yes, at a nearby hall, home or venue with room to cook outside. Food is typically served at the reception venue rather than the church. Send us the address.

Can you do a hog roast at a venue in the North Wessex Downs National Landscape?

Yes. Some venues there have rules about cooking and vehicles, so check with yours. We’ll follow the site rules.

Can you be flexible on serving time?

Within reason, we can. Keep us posted on the day and we will fit around changes.

What happens in bad weather?

Rain doesn’t stop the cooking. A marquee, hall or barn for eating makes all the difference.

Can you cook inside a hall or marquee?

No, the roast is always cooked outdoors under cover, at a safe distance from walls and tents. Serving inside is often possible, with the venue’s agreement.

How do we prepare?

Just the agreed spot and a contact on the day. We bring the roaster, cover and serving kit.

Do we need our own staff?

We carve and serve for you, and we clear up when service is finished.

How far ahead should we book?

Popular dates go early. But it is always worth asking: fill in our quote form.

Planning the cooking spot

The cooking area is the main thing to plan. Check these:

  • Flat ground in the garden or on the drive
  • A step-free way into the garden
  • Parking close to the house

If in doubt, send us a picture of the spot and we will advise.

What we serve

  • Crackling
  • Vegan burger or sausage (Ve)
  • Stuffing and apple sauce
  • Salads
  • Coleslaw
  • Rotisserie chicken
  • Jacket potatoes
  • Halloumi skewers (V)
  • Hog roast rolls
