The menu, dish by dish

Roast pork

Our chef carves the pork as it’s needed, which keeps it hot and moist right to the last roll.

Halloumi and vegetable skewers (V)

Our vegetarian option is halloumi and vegetable skewers: squeaky, salty cheese with colourful veg, in a roll or on a plate.

A hog roast makes a party at home feel special. We set up in your garden or on the drive, roast slowly for hours and carve when you’re ready, so you can enjoy your own party. Popular choices include hog roast rolls, rotisserie chicken and apple sauce, and we’re often booked for street parties and back-garden get-togethers.

Near The City, parties are often in gardens or fields. Let us know about access, and we’ll handle the rest. We bring plates as standard, and china crockery is available on request, quoted separately.

Full catering or machine hire?

You could go for a cold buffet, but nothing beats hot pork and crackling carved in front of you.

Full catering or machine hire? With catering, our chef roasts, carves and serves, and our staff clear up. With DIY hire, you do the work and save on staffing.

Is a hog roast right for your party?

Compared with cooking for everyone yourself, you get to enjoy the party. Cost depends on numbers, menu choices and service time, plus travel and access. There’s no one-size price, so we quote each one individually.

Why book with us

  • Serving and clearing done for you
  • The classics: stuffing, apple sauce and crackling
  • Carved by our chef in front of your guests
  • Served at the time you choose

For event organisers in The City

For workplace bookings, check with facilities about gas equipment and vehicle access. We work to the site’s rules.

Organisers may ask for documents such as a risk assessment or gas safety information. Let us know what your event requires and we will tell you what we can send.

Common questions in The City

Is The City too small for a hog roast?

Not at all. We cater in villages and hamlets as well as towns. Let us know about access and the cooking spot.

Which station is closest to The City?

Saunderton station, about 1.8 miles north-east of the centre.

Do you clear up?

Our staff clear the serving area, and we take our equipment with us.

How much room do you need?

Enough level ground outdoors for the roaster and a serving table under cover, plus a step-free route to wheel the equipment in. A photo helps.

What if things run late?

Because the roast takes hours, we plan from your serving time, and a cooked roast can be held for a while if things run late.

Do you cover The City?

Yes. We cover London and the South East, including The City and Buckinghamshire. Send us the address for a quote.

Can the hog roast be cooked indoors?

No, the roast is always cooked outdoors under cover, away from buildings and marquee walls. Serving inside is often possible, with the venue’s agreement.

Can we just hire the roaster?

We do, if you are happy to roast and carve yourself. Ask and we will talk you through it.

Diets, allergies and alternatives

Tell us about dietary needs early and we will help. Tips:

  • Let us know roughly how many children
  • Tell us how many vegetarians and vegans to expect
  • Check the allergen list, as stuffing generally contains gluten
  • Count non-pork eaters for the alternatives

Warn the neighbours: the roast cooks for hours, and they may ask for a roll.

Add coleslaw, salads and jacket potatoes to make it a full meal.

What a hog roast costs

There’s no fixed price list, since every event is different. What matters most:

  • Busy dates such as summer Saturdays
  • Access to the cooking area
  • Time on site
  • Travel to The City

A hog roast is often good value for a crowd, since one roast goes a long way. The menu, extras such as china and the serving time all affect the final price.

What we need to know

When you enquire, please mention:

  • Roughly how many people
  • Where the roaster could go, ideally with a picture
  • Your date and serving time
  • The address or postcode

Numbers not final yet? Give us your best estimate and we’ll quote on that, and you can confirm nearer the time. Use our quote form.

How it works

The roaster is gas-fired, so cooking does not depend on mains power, though a socket nearby is handy for lighting. By late September, sunset in The City is about 7:05pm; by December it is about 3:55pm. Plan lights for the path and the food.

  1. Show us the garden or drive.
  2. We confirm it works and send a quote.
  3. We cook for hours on site.
  4. We serve when you are ready.
  5. We leave the garden tidy.

Getting ready for the day

  • Pick a flat, open area outside for cooking
  • Check there is nothing overhead or close by that could catch the heat
  • Have a covered area for eating in case of rain
