Choosing a hog roast caterer

How our party hog roast works in West Burton

For a christening or naming day in West Burton, a hog roast at home means everyone eats together, without anyone stuck cooking. We’re often asked to cater back-garden get-togethers and getting-engaged parties, serving jacket potatoes, a vegan burger or sausage and apple sauce.

Near West Burton, parties are frequently in gardens or fields. Let us know about access, and we’ll plan the route. Let us know about allergies and dietary needs in advance, and we’ll give you the allergen information for every dish before booking.

Step by step

Service is quick once we start carving: our chef carves and our staff fill the rolls or plates, with the sides served alongside. When everyone has eaten, we clear up and leave the spot tidy. A summer party in West Burton stays light until about 9:20pm at midsummer, so a garden party can run well into the evening. In late September it is dark by about 7:05pm; add lights for the evening.

  1. Tell us about your party: date, address and numbers.
  2. We check the space and send a price.
  3. We set up hours ahead.
  4. We carve and serve at food time.
  5. We tidy up and pack away.

How to prepare

  • Measure the narrowest gate or passage
  • Choose a level, open spot outdoors for the roaster
  • Have a covered area for eating in case of rain

West Burton: your questions answered

Do you cater at venues in the South Downs National Park?

Yes, though some venues in protected landscapes have extra rules for caterers; ask your venue. We’ll work to whatever the site needs.

We’re gathering after a service at The Parish Church of the Holy Cross: can you cater?

Yes, at a nearby hall, home or venue with room to cook outside. Churches rarely have space for a hog roast, so the food is usually elsewhere. Tell us where you will gather.

Can we hire the hog roast machine for our party?

Yes, DIY machine hire is available. We’ll talk you through it when we quote.

Do you provide china?

Plates are included. China is available at an extra cost.

What happens after service?

Our staff clear up after service, leaving the spot as we found it.

Do you offer gluten-free rolls?

We can provide gluten-free rolls if you ask. Stuffing normally contains gluten, so check the allergen information.

Can we hire the machine and cook it ourselves?

DIY machine hire is available. We will confirm what comes with it and how to use it.

Is there a non-pork option?

Add lamb, chicken, halloumi and vegetable skewers or a vegan option. We don’t offer halal meat.

Is a hog roast right for your party?

Compared with cooking for everyone yourself, you get to enjoy the party. A hog roast is often good value for a crowd, because one whole roast feeds plenty of people. Extras, china and longer service add to it.

Prices and what affects them

Things that change the price:

  • Plates or china
  • The date and time of year
  • Which meats and sides you choose
  • The journey to the venue

Travel matters for the price: we include travel in the quote, with any London charges listed. Tell us the exact address so the quote is accurate.

What we need to know

Good details mean a good quote. Please include:

  • What the outdoor space is like
  • An estimate of numbers
  • Rules from the venue or landowner
  • The venue or postcode

It’s easy to get a price: date, place, numbers and serving time. You will get a clear quote listing what’s included. Send us your details through our quote form.

Full catering or machine hire?

You could roast a hog yourself, but it is a long day’s work, from setting up and lighting the roaster to carving. With us catering, you get to be a host, not a cook.

Timing is the tricky part of roasting your own: a big roast takes hours and must be cooked thoroughly. If you’d rather not worry about it, let us cook.

Where the roaster can go in West Burton

We need room to cook safely and under cover. Before booking, check:

  • Parking close to the house
  • A level patio, lawn or driveway
  • A heads-up for next door

If in doubt, send us a picture of the spot and we’ll advise before booking.

What comes off the roaster

Crackling

Long, slow roasting turns the skin into crackling, and there’s a piece for everyone who wants it.

Salads, potatoes and coleslaw

Crunchy coleslaw suits roast pork, while salads and potatoes make a plated meal.

Looking after everyone

Allergies and dietary needs are easy to manage if we know in advance. Tips:

  • Collect dietary needs when guests reply
  • Plan separately for anyone who needs halal food
  • Remember stuffing normally contains gluten
  • Find out who doesn’t eat pork so we can bring chicken or a vegetarian option

If the party runs late, the roast can wait a little, so tell us if timings change.

Ask about china for a sit-down party, quoted separately.
