Milestone birthdays call for something special, and a whole hog roasting in the garden is exactly that. Your guests will smell it from the street. Whether it’s wedding anniversaries and christenings, we can cook coleslaw, crackling and hog roast rolls.

In a small place like Wishanger Common, a party in the garden or a nearby field is often the plan. Let us know about access, and we will handle the rest. The carving happens right in front of your guests, so the pork is hot and the crackling is crisp, and nothing sits in a hot cabinet.

Parties in Wishanger Common: homes, halls and local tips

Wishanger Common is about 5 miles south of Farnham, in Surrey. Our roaster is a regular sight at parties around Wishanger Common. We cover 395 places in Surrey. Our nearest city page is Guildford, about 12 miles away.

For guests coming by train, the nearest station is Bentley (Hampshire) station, about 3.7 miles north-west. A green space like The Flashes is tempting, but a gas-fired roaster there needs the landowner’s say-so, usually the council’s. The Surrey Hills National Landscape is within about 4 miles of Wishanger Common, so a garden party here comes with a lovely backdrop.

Wherever your party is in GU10, we can bring the roaster to you. That could mean a party in a garden on Frensham Lane and Wishanger Lane or the roads around them, as long as there is somewhere outside to cook. What affects the price in Wishanger Common

The biggest factors are:

  • Busy dates such as summer Saturdays
  • Whether you want china
  • Access to the cooking area
  • Menu choices and extras

Travel matters for the price: travel is included in your quote, with any London charges listed. Give us the address for an accurate figure.

Getting an accurate quote

A few details help us give you an accurate quote. Here’s what’s useful:

  • Where the event is
  • Any extras, such as lamb, chicken or china
  • Where the roaster could go, ideally with a picture
  • Dietary requirements

Tell us your date, venue or postcode and roughly how many people, plus when you’d like to eat. We’ll confirm availability and send a price. Send us your details through our quote form.

DIY versus a catered hog roast

The hardest part of a DIY hog roast is timing: a big roast takes hours and must be cooked thoroughly. If that sounds stressful, choose the catered option.

You could roast a hog yourself, but it is a long day’s work, from setting up and lighting the roaster to carving. With us catering, you get to be a host, not a cook.

What comes off the roaster

Rolls and gluten-free rolls

Soft rolls hold the pork, stuffing and apple sauce together, perfect for eating on the move. Gluten-free rolls are available on request.

Roast pork

Our chef carves the pork as it’s needed, so it stays hot and juicy right to the last roll.

Working with your venue

Organisers may ask for documents such as a risk assessment or gas safety information. Tell us what you need and we’ll tell you what we can send.

If you’re a venue or event planner, we are happy to work alongside your team.

Questions from Wishanger Common

Which station is closest to Wishanger Common?

The closest is Bentley (Hampshire) station, roughly 3.7 miles away.

How far is Wishanger Common from London?

About 39 miles from central London.

What’s included?

Roast pork carved into soft rolls with sage and onion stuffing, apple sauce and crackling. You can add lamb, chicken, vegetarian and vegan options, salads, coleslaw and potatoes.

Will you clear up afterwards?

Yes, we clear up after service.

Can we cook it ourselves?

If you’re happy to roast and carve, yes. Catering is the easier option.

Do you do DIY hog roast hire?

Yes, for confident cooks. Ask and we will talk you through it.

What about guests who do not eat pork?

There are lamb, chicken, vegetarian and vegan options: spit-roast lamb, rotisserie chicken, halloumi and vegetable skewers or a vegan burger or sausage. We don’t offer halal meat.

What if it rains?

Rain does not stop the cooking. Somewhere covered for people to eat helps.

Allergies and dietary needs

Standard rolls and stuffing contain gluten, and gluten-free rolls are available on request. Other tips:

  • Ask us to label vegetarian and vegan food
  • Find out who doesn’t eat pork so we can bring chicken or a vegetarian option
  • Think about children’s portions
  • Plan separately for anyone who needs halal food

We set up where we agreed and stay out of the way, so the party carries on around us.

Add coleslaw, salads and jacket potatoes to make it a full meal.

A hog roast compared with other options

Compared with a restaurant booking, a hog roast at home lets everyone relax in the garden. What you pay covers the meat, the chef and staff, and hours of roasting. A long, slow roast means an early start, and the quote reflects that.

Why book with us

  • Carved by our chef in front of your guests
  • Serving and clearing done for you
  • Crackling for everyone who wants it
  • Cooked on the day, low and slow

How it works

Service is quick once we start carving: the chef carves and the team serves, with the sides served alongside. When everyone has eaten, we clear up and leave the spot tidy. Sunset in Wishanger Common is about 8:55pm in late May and 9:20pm in late June, so an early-evening carve is usually in daylight. After about 4:00pm in December, we need light to carve.
