Hog roast hire in RH9

Our hog roast hire in RH9

It’s a simple format that suits most crowds: roast pork in a soft roll, with stuffing, apple sauce and crackling, and alternatives for anyone who does not eat pork. We are often asked to cater weddings and receptions and Fêtes, fairs and shows, with new potatoes, halloumi skewers and spit-roast lamb.

We take care of everything from the first hour of roasting to clearing away, so you can get on with your event in RH9.

  1. First, tell us about your event.
  2. We check the date and the cooking spot, then send a quote.
  3. We agree timings and where the roaster goes.
  4. On the day we roast for hours, then carve to order.
  5. Our staff serve and clear, then we pack away.

What you’ll pay

A hog roast across RH9: what to know

RH9 covers everything from Holmethorpe, Godstone and Blindley Heath to 8 small villages and hamlets, and a hog roast suits every kind of setting. In towns, plan access to the garden; in villages, tell us about lanes and ground.

Godstone: Nearby historic houses include Titsey Place (4.1 miles north-east). If your event is at a historic house or estate, check its rules on outside caterers and gas cooking early. Churches such as Church of St Nicholas rarely have room for a roaster, but a hall or home close by normally does. Light matters for a long roast: in Godstone, sunset is around 8:50pm in late May and 9:20pm in late June, but by late December it’s dark by about 3:55pm, so winter bookings need lighting from mid-afternoon.

The menu, dish by dish

Rolls and gluten-free rolls

We can serve in rolls or on plates, and gluten-free rolls are available on request.

Stuffing and apple sauce

Apple sauce brings sweetness and sharpness are the traditional pairing. Stuffing normally contains gluten.

Prices and what affects them

Things that change the price:

  • Busy dates such as summer Saturdays
  • The serving time and how long we are on site
  • The journey to the venue
  • Whether you want china

Most of the cost is the meat, the staff and the time on site. Slow roasting means we’re on site for much of the day, which is built into the price.

What to tell us

Good details mean a good quote. Please include:

  • The address or postcode
  • An estimate of numbers
  • Which meats and sides you’d like
  • The date and when you’d like to eat

A quote from us sets out the menu, timings, staffing and what’s included, so it’s easy to compare like for like. Fill in our quote form.

Planning for dietary needs

Tell us about dietary needs early and we will help. Some ideas:

  • Put the menu on the invitation
  • Request gluten-free rolls for coeliac guests
  • Count anyone who doesn’t eat pork, and order an alternative for them
  • We do not offer halal meat, so arrange that separately if it’s needed

Name someone to meet us, who can show us the cooking spot and pass on any changes.

Gluten-free rolls are available on request.

Should I cook it myself?

You could go for a cold buffet, but hot, freshly carved roast pork is a different experience.

If you’re confident and want to save on staff, DIY machine hire is an option. You do the roasting and carving; we will confirm what comes with it when you ask.

What the cooking area needs

Most outdoor spaces can work with a little planning. Here’s what we look for:

  • Permission from the venue or landowner
  • A level, open spot outdoors for the roaster
  • Nothing overhead that could catch the heat

RH9 questions

Can you cater for vegetarians?

There are lamb, chicken, vegetarian and vegan options: spit-roast lamb, rotisserie chicken, halloumi and vegetable skewers or a vegan burger or sausage. We do not offer halal meat.

How soon do you get booked up?

Summer Saturdays and December book up first. Quieter dates can frequently be booked at shorter notice. Ask and we will check.

What happens when we hire a hog roast?

We roast on site, carve to order and serve, in rolls with stuffing, apple sauce and crackling.

Do you serve the food?

No need for your own staff: we carve, serve and tidy up.

Do you serve the crackling?

It is: slow roasting crisps the skin and we break it up for everyone.

Can you cook inside a hall or marquee?

It cooks outside, under a gazebo, on a level spot. The food can be carried in and served indoors where the venue allows.

Do you cook it or do we?

You can have us cook, or hire the machine. We will explain what’s included in each when we quote.

  • Roasted on site for several hours, outdoors under cover
  • Our chef carves the pork, with stuffing, apple sauce and crackling on the side
  • Lamb, chicken and vegetarian options alongside the pork
  • Our team serves at your chosen time and clears up afterwards
