Wedding hog roast in Binsted, slow-roasted on site
Wedding timings shift, and a slow roast copes well: a cooked roast holds for a while, so a long speech won’t ruin the food. Whether it is vow renewals and blessings and wedding breakfasts with sides, we will put together a menu of carved roast pork, spit-roast lamb and salads for your guests.
There is something special about a country wedding near Binsted, and a whole hog roasting through the afternoon adds to it. Plan a firm route in, especially if it rains. Everything we need to roast, carve and serve comes with us, and we pack away and leave the area as we found it.
Space, access and the venue
The roaster needs the right spot, because it cooks outside for several hours, and a little planning goes a long way:
- Clear space away from the marquee and any branches
- A serving area close to where guests eat
- The venue’s agreement to a gas-fired roaster
If you’re unsure, send a photo of the space and the way in, and we’ll say what we think before you book.

A hog roast or other catering?
Next to a cold buffet, hot carved pork beats sandwiches every time. Most of the cost is the meat, the staff and the time on site. A long, slow roast means an early start, which is built into the price.
Why us?
- Served at the time you choose
- Self-contained: roaster, cover and serving kit

Step by step
The roaster cooks outdoors, on a level, open spot under cover, away from buildings, marquee walls and overhanging branches. We agree exactly where before the day. For a summer wedding in Binsted, the sun sets at about 9:20pm in late June and about 7:05pm in late September, so evening food is frequently carved in daylight in June and July. Later in the year, plan lighting: in December it is dark by about 4:00pm.
- Share your date, venue, numbers and which meal you’d like.
- We check the venue’s rules and the date, then send a quote.
- We fit our timings around your running order and the venue.
- We roast during the ceremony and drinks, then carve at the agreed time.
- Afterwards we tidy our area and leave you to the party.
Getting ready for the day
- Keep the spot clear of buildings, marquee walls and overhanging branches
- Make sure we can wheel the roaster to the spot
- Give us final numbers a week or so before

Binsted questions
What’s the nearest station to Binsted?
The closest is Bentley (Hampshire) station, roughly 1.5 miles away.
We are gathering after a service at Church of the Holy Cross: can you cater?
Yes, at a nearby hall, home or venue with room to cook outside. Churches rarely have space for a hog roast, so the food is normally elsewhere. Send us the address.
How long does the roast need?
Several hours, depending on the size and the weather, which is why we arrive hours ahead. We work back from your serving time.
Do you do evening food?
Of course. We will time it around your first dance and band.
Do you need power or water?
No, the roast is cooked on gas. Let us know what’s on site.
Can you roast in the rain?
The roaster is under cover, so a shower doesn’t stop us. Plan somewhere sheltered for eating.
Do you offer gluten-free rolls?
Ask for gluten-free rolls and we will bring them. You’ll get allergen details for everything.
Do you clear up?
We clear the serving area and pack away, and leave the area tidy.
Full catering or machine hire?
Catered or DIY? Catered means we do everything: roasting, carving, serving and clearing. With hire only, you do the cooking yourself.
Timing is the tricky part of roasting your own: a big roast takes hours and must be cooked thoroughly. If that sounds stressful, choose the catered option.
Organising for someone else?
If you’re organising for someone else, whether you are a planner, a PA or on a committee, let us know who we’ll deal with on the day. We will keep everyone in the loop.
For venues and planners, we can fit around your other suppliers.
