Wedding hog roast in Boldre

For planners, venues and organisers

Marquee suppliers generally set distances for cooking equipment, so tell them a hog roast is coming. We will keep the roaster well clear of the marquee.

For events on land you don’t own, such as a park or field, you’ll need the landowner’s permission for cooking and vehicles. Get that agreed before booking.

Wedding hog roast in Boldre, carved to order

A slow roast suits a wedding day that runs late: a cooked roast holds for a while, so a long speech won’t ruin the food. We are frequently asked to cater vow renewals and blessings and weddings in a family garden, with spit-roast lamb, rotisserie chicken and salads.

Near Boldre, weddings are frequently in fields, barns or gardens. That is where a hog roast shines: no kitchen, just level ground and cover. Tell us about lanes, gates and ground conditions. Tell us about dietary needs and allergies when you enquire, and we will give you the allergen information for every dish before you book.

A hog roast or other catering?

Compared with a three-course plated meal, a hog roast wedding breakfast is relaxed and typically costs less per head. It still feels special. Most of the cost is the meat, the staff and the time on site. A long, slow roast means an early start, which is built into the price.

Why book with us

  • Carved to order by a chef
  • An itemised quote
  • All the equipment comes with us
  • Crackling for everyone who wants it

Take a look at our prices page or what a hog roast costs.

Should I cook it myself?

Roasting a whole hog yourself is possible, but it takes hours of attention, from setting up and lighting the roaster to carving. A catered hog roast means you can enjoy the day.

We also hire out the hog roast machine for confident cooks. You do the roasting and carving; we’ll explain what’s supplied and how it works when we quote.

Before you choose a spot

The right spot for the roaster makes everything easier. Look for:

  • A serving area close to where guests eat
  • Lighting for evening service
  • A level, open cooking spot outside the marquee or barn

If you’re unsure, send a picture of the space and the way in, and we’ll say what we think.

Crackling

Prices and what affects them

Each price is built from:

  • How long the roast and service take
  • Travel to Boldre
  • Plates or china
  • Which meats and sides you choose

When comparing prices, compare the same things: the menu, sides, service time, staffing, crockery and travel. A cheaper headline price can leave things out.

Details that help

The more we know, the more accurate the quote. Please include:

  • Any venue rules
  • Where the event is
  • Where the roaster could go, ideally with a picture
  • The date and when you’d like to eat

Not sure how many to cater for? Give us your best estimate and we’ll quote on that, and you can confirm nearer the time. Send us your details through our quote form.

The process

We get there well ahead of service, since slow roasting cannot be rushed. The smell usually brings people over long before we carve. In Boldre, evening wedding food frequently coincides with dusk: about 9:25pm at midsummer, 8:55pm in late May and 7:10pm in late September. A few lights by the serving table help guests and photos alike.

  1. Send us the date, venue and guest numbers.
  2. We check the venue’s rules and the date, then quote.
  3. We fit timings around your running order.
  4. We roast during the day, then carve at the agreed time.
  5. Our staff serve and clear, then we leave quietly.

Before we arrive

  • Ensure the cooking area is away from walls, tents and trees
  • Tell us about narrow gates or side passages
  • Pick a flat, open area outside for cooking

Boldre questions

Can you roast near the sea around Boldre?

Yes. Wind is something we plan for: a sheltered spot and secure cover.

We are gathering after a service at Saint Nicholas Chapel: can you cater?

Yes, at a home, hall or venue nearby with an outdoor spot for the roaster. Food is normally served at the reception venue rather than the church. Send us the address.

Can a hog roast be our wedding breakfast?

Yes. We serve it on plates with salads and potatoes, with china available, with our staff serving.

How do you work out quantities?

The roast is chosen to suit how many you’re feeding, so tell us your best estimate. The quote sets it out.

How much does a hog roast cost?

It depends on numbers, the menu and how long we’re on site. Tell us your date and we’ll send a price.

Do you clear up?

Our staff clear the serving area, so you are not left with the mess.

Is there a non-pork option?

There are lamb, chicken, vegetarian and vegan options: spit-roast lamb, rotisserie chicken, halloumi and vegetable skewers or a vegan burger or sausage. Please note we do not offer halal meat.

Do you offer gluten-free rolls?

Ask for gluten-free rolls and we will bring them. You will get allergen details for everything.

  • Slow-roasted on site for hours, outdoors at your event
  • Carved by our chef into rolls with stuffing, apple sauce and crackling
  • Not just pork: spit-roast lamb, chicken and vegetarian choices
  • Served when you’re ready, and we tidy the serving area afterwards
