Slow-roasted pork in Bramdean
How our wedding hog roast works in Bramdean
A hog roast gives your wedding a centrepiece: people gather round as the chef carves. It’s food and a bit of theatre. Popular choices include crackling, spit-roast lamb and halloumi skewers, and we’re regularly asked to cater intimate weddings and vow renewals and blessings.
Rural weddings around Bramdean have a magic of their own, and a whole hog roasting through the afternoon adds to it. Plan firm ground and a route for our vehicle. Plates come as standard, and china crockery is available on request, quoted separately.
What comes off the roaster
Spit-roast lamb
With lamb as well, there are two roasts to choose from, which suits bigger events.
Salads, potatoes and coleslaw
Choose from salads, new potatoes, coleslaw and roast or jacket potatoes, to suit your event.
What else we do in Bramdean
Organising for someone else?
If you are organising for someone else, whether you’re a planner, a PA or on a committee, let us know who we’ll deal with on the day. We’ll keep you both updated.
Some venues add a fee for outside caterers, so check before booking. We will work with the venue on access and the cooking spot.
Bramdean questions
We are gathering after a service at Church of St Simon and St Jude: can you cater?
Yes, at a nearby hall, home or venue with room to cook outside. Churches rarely have space for a hog roast, so the food is normally elsewhere. Send us the address.
Do you come out to small places like Bramdean?
No, we come to small places too. Let us know about access and the cooking spot.
How big a hog will we need?
We plan quantities from the numbers you give us, and we’ll talk it through when we quote.
Can you be flexible on serving time?
We will be as flexible as we can. Give us a contact on the day and we’ll adjust.
Do you bring plates?
Plates come as standard. China crockery is available on request and quoted separately.
Can a hog roast be our wedding breakfast?
Yes. We serve it on plates with salads and potatoes, with china available, and our staff serve your guests.
Do you offer gluten-free rolls?
Ask for gluten-free rolls and we will bring them. We will give you full allergen information for every dish.
How soon do you get booked up?
Summer Saturdays and December book up first. Quieter dates can frequently be booked at shorter notice. Ask and we will check.

Planning for dietary needs
Some guests will not eat pork, so it’s worth adding an alternative. A few pointers:
- Ask for gluten-free rolls for coeliac guests
- Share the menu with your venue coordinator
- Halal is not offered, so plan separately if needed
- Confirm final numbers a week or so before
We will liaise with your venue coordinator, so we can sort the cooking spot and timings with them.
Gluten-free rolls can be provided for the evening food.
DIY versus a catered hog roast
Catered or DIY? Catered means we do everything: roasting, carving, serving and clearing. With DIY hire, you do the work and save on staffing.
Roasting a whole hog yourself is possible, but it takes hours of attention, from early set-up to carving at the end. With us catering, you get to be a host, not a cook.
Why choose a hog roast in Bramdean?
Compared with pizza or other evening vans, carving serves a lot of people fast. The price depends on numbers, the menu and how long we serve, along with distance and how easy the site is. There’s no one-size price, so we quote each one individually.
Why us?
- Planned to your running order
- An itemised quote
- Fresh carving at the serving station
- A choice of salads and potatoes

How we price a hog roast for your wedding
Each booking is quoted on its own, based on a few main things:
- Crockery choices
- Busy dates such as summer Saturdays
- Time on site
- How easy it is to reach the spot
For larger numbers, a hog roast is typically good value, since one roast goes a long way. Extras, china and longer service add to it.
What we need to know
Here’s what we will ask:
- Dietary requirements
- Where the event is
- The date and when you’d like to eat
- Where the roaster could go, ideally with a photo
Every quote lists the menu, the serving time, staff and plates, so it’s easy to compare like for like. Use our quote form.
What the cooking area needs
The roaster needs space, cover and a safe distance from anything that could catch the heat. Things to check:
- A level spot near, but not too near, the marquee
- Power for lights in the evening
- The venue’s agreement to a gas-fired roaster
If you are unsure, send a photo of the space and the way in, and we’ll say what we think before you book.

How the day works
Serving is straightforward: the chef carves and the team serves, with the sides served alongside. Afterwards we clear the serving area and pack away. In Bramdean, midsummer sunset is about 9:25pm, and by late September it is nearer 7:10pm, so evening food is often carved in daylight in June and July. Later in the year, plan lighting: in December it is dark by about 4:00pm.
- You tell us your date, venue, numbers and whether it’s the wedding breakfast, the evening or both.
- We check the venue’s rules and the date, then send a quote.
- We agree arrival, cooking spot and serving times with you and your venue.
- We cook through the day and serve right on cue.
- Afterwards we tidy our area and leave you to the party.
