Planners, venues and businesses

If you are organising for someone else, such as a wedding planner, an office manager or a fête committee, let us know who we’ll deal with on the day. We’ll keep you both updated.

If the event is on someone else’s land, the landowner needs to agree to cooking and vehicles. Sort that first.

Wedding hog roast in Calshot, slow-roasted on site

We look after guests who do not eat pork: lamb, chicken, halloumi skewers or a vegan burger or sausage. We do not offer halal meat. For intimate weddings and post-wedding gatherings, we’ll put together a menu of rotisserie chicken, halloumi skewers and salads.

Near Calshot, weddings are frequently in fields, barns or gardens. That’s where a hog roast shines: no kitchen, just level ground and cover. Tell us about lanes, gates and ground conditions. Our staff serve and clear, so nobody in your party has to serve.

How we price a hog roast for your wedding

The price comes down to:

  • Menu choices and extras
  • The serving time and how long we’re on site
  • Access to the cooking area
  • Season and day of the week

Numbers make the biggest difference: the price per head normally falls as numbers rise, since much of the cost is fixed.

What we need to know

When you get in touch, it helps to include:

  • Rough numbers
  • Dietary requirements
  • The date and time of the event
  • Where the event is

Not sure how many to cater for? A rough figure is fine for a first quote, then confirm closer to the date. Use our quote form.

Space, access and the venue

The cooking area is the main thing to plan. A quick checklist:

  • A way in for the roaster
  • Permission for outside catering
  • Flat ground outside the reception for the roaster

If you’re unsure, send a picture of the space and the way in, and we’ll say what we think.

From the roaster

  • Vegan option (Ve)
  • Hog roast rolls
  • Rotisserie chicken
  • Roast or jacket potatoes
  • Spit-roast lamb
  • Crackling
  • Stuffing and apple sauce
  • New potatoes
  • Halloumi skewers (V)
  • Salads

Diets, allergies and alternatives

With a bit of planning, dietary needs are easier to handle. A few tips:

  • Put a dietary question on the invitation
  • Share the menu with your venue coordinator
  • Give us vegetarian and vegan numbers
  • Confirm final numbers a week or so before

Give us your venue coordinator’s details, for access and timings.

Some couples add lights around the serving area; tell your venue or marquee supplier.

What we serve, dish by dish

Spit-roast lamb

Lamb roasted on the spit is a lovely alternative to pork, especially for guests who do not eat pork.

Roast pork

We carve as we serve, so it stays hot and juicy.

Your questions about a hog roast for your wedding in Calshot

Do you cater at venues in the New Forest National Park?

Yes. Some venues there have rules about cooking and vehicles, so check with yours. We will work to whatever the site needs.

Is Calshot too small for a hog roast?

Not at all. We cater in villages and hamlets as well as towns. Let us know about access and the cooking spot.

Can you do our evening wedding food?

Of course. We’ll time it around your first dance and band.

Do we need our own staff?

Our chef carves and our staff serve, and we clear up when service is finished.

What should we sort out beforehand?

A clear, level cooking spot, a route to wheel the equipment in and a contact for the day. We will bring the rest.

What about guests who don’t eat pork?

The menu has lamb, chicken, vegetarian and vegan options. Halal meat isn’t something we offer.

How far ahead should we book?

As early as you can for summer weekends and December. Quieter dates can frequently be booked at shorter notice. Ask and we will check.

Can you cook inside a hall or marquee?

It cooks outside, under a gazebo, on a level spot. The food can be carried in and served indoors where the venue allows.

What happens on the day

Service is quick once we start carving: our chef carves and our staff fill the rolls or plates, with the sides served alongside. When everyone has eaten, we clear up and leave the spot tidy. Evening food at a Calshot wedding frequently goes out just as the light fades: sunset is around 8:55pm in late May, 9:20pm at midsummer and 7:10pm in late September. A few lights by the serving table help guests and photos alike.

  1. Share your date, venue, numbers and which meal you’d like.
  2. We check the venue and the cooking spot and send a price.
  3. We agree arrival, cooking spot and serving times with you and your venue.
  4. We roast during the ceremony and drinks, then carve at the agreed time.
  5. We clear away once everyone has eaten.

Before we arrive

  • Check there is nothing overhead or close by that could catch the heat
  • Name a contact for the day
  • Check there’s a route to wheel the equipment in, without steps
