What affects the price in Cheriton

Each booking is quoted on its own, and the price depends on a few things:

  • Plates or china
  • Site access
  • Season and day of the week
  • Which meats and sides you choose

Extras such as lamb, chicken, more sides or china crockery add to the cost, so each one is itemised. A simple menu keeps the cost down.

What we need to know

Here’s what we will ask:

  • A photo of the cooking area
  • Any extras, such as lamb, chicken or china
  • Dietary requirements
  • Rules from the venue or landowner

A quote from us sets out the menu, timings, staffing and what’s included, so it is easy to compare like for like. Fill in our quote form.

A hog roast compared with other options

Next to a cold buffet, hot rolls carved to order go down much better. The price depends on numbers, the menu and how long we serve, along with distance and how easy the site is. Every booking is different, which is why each one gets its own quote.

Why us?

  • Slow-roasted at your venue, not reheated
  • Fresh carving at the serving station
  • Choices for people who don’t eat pork
  • Staff to serve, so you do not have to

How the day works

A typical booking goes like this: we arrive, set up under cover and start roasting, the pork cooks slowly for hours, and our chef carves it when you’re ready. Golden-hour photos in Cheriton at midsummer come around 9:15pm, so we can time the carving before or after your sunset photos. In late May, sunset is about 8:45pm, and in late September about 7:00pm.

  1. You tell us your date, venue, numbers and whether it’s the wedding breakfast, the evening or both.
  2. We check the venue’s rules and the date, then send a quote.
  3. We fit our timings around your running order and the venue.
  4. We cook through the day and serve right on cue.
  5. Our staff clear the serving area and we leave quietly.

Getting ready for the day

  • Keep the spot clear of buildings, marquee walls and overhanging branches
  • Gather dietary requirements early

Planning help

Catered or do it yourself?

You could roast a hog yourself, but it is a long day’s work, from setting up and lighting the roaster to carving. With us catering, you get to be a host, not a cook.

The hardest part of a DIY hog roast is timing: a big roast takes hours and must be cooked thoroughly. If you’d rather not worry about it, let us cook.

It is worth telling train travellers that Folkestone West station is about 0.6 miles away. The Kent Downs National Landscape is within about 5 miles of Cheriton, with plenty of rural wedding settings. Ask your venue where a hog roast can cook. The sea is within about 2 miles, so seaside venues are close. We will think about shelter from sea breezes.

Common questions in Cheriton

Can you cater after a service at Church of All Souls?

Yes, at a home, hall or venue nearby with an outdoor spot for the roaster. Churches rarely have space for a hog roast, so the food is typically elsewhere. Tell us where you will gather.

Can you roast near the sea around Cheriton?

Yes. Wind is something we plan for: a sheltered spot and secure cover.

Can we have both pork and lamb?

Yes, spit-roast lamb can go alongside the pork.

Can a hog roast be our wedding breakfast?

Yes. We serve it on plates with salads and potatoes, with china available, and our staff serve your guests.

Do you do evening food?

It is one of our most popular wedding bookings. Rolls with stuffing, apple sauce and crackling go down well after dancing.

What space does the roaster need?

Roughly the footprint of a gazebo or two, on level ground, away from buildings, marquee walls and overhanging trees. We’ll confirm the space with your quote.

How do you work out quantities?

The roast is chosen to suit how many you are feeding, so tell us your best estimate. The quote sets it out.

Do you offer gluten-free rolls?

Ask for gluten-free rolls and we will bring them. You’ll get allergen details for everything.

Working with your venue

If the event is on someone else’s land, the landowner needs to agree to cooking and vehicles. Sort that first.

Planning on behalf of a committee? One clear contact makes everything easier, particularly when timings shift.

Planning for dietary needs

You’ll get allergen information for everything we serve. To make the most of it:

  • Halal isn’t offered, so plan separately if needed
  • Count non-pork eaters, so we can add lamb, chicken or vegetarian options
  • Remember that stuffing usually contains gluten, so check the allergen list
  • Give us vegetarian and vegan numbers

On your wedding day, the food should look after itself. We arrive hours before serving, roast through the day and carve on cue.

Some couples add lights around the serving area.

What comes off the roaster

Salads, potatoes and coleslaw

Coleslaw is the natural partner for a pork roll, and salads and new potatoes work well on a plate.

Rolls and gluten-free rolls

Rolls or plates? Rolls are quicker; plates suit a sit-down meal, with gluten-free rolls on request.

  • Cooked where you are, slowly, over several hours outdoors
  • Freshly carved pork with crackling, stuffing and apple sauce
  • Options beyond pork, including lamb, chicken and vegetarian dishes
  • Served when you’re ready, and we tidy the serving area afterwards
