Wedding hog roast in Sandgate

Wedding hog roast in Sandgate, carved to order

A hog roast gives your wedding a centrepiece: guests gather, the chef carves and the crackling disappears fast. It feels like an occasion. We are often asked to cater small, informal weddings and marquee receptions, serving carved roast pork, rotisserie chicken and halloumi skewers.

Near Sandgate, weddings are often in fields, barns or gardens. A hog roast is made for that: no kitchen needed, just an outdoor cooking spot. Let us know about access and ground. You will know what’s included before booking: the date, the serving time, the menu and the plates, with no surprises on the day.

Weddings in Sandgate: venues, ceremonies and travel

Sandgate is about 1 mile south-west of Folkestone, in Kent. Weddings in Sandgate are part of our patch. Sandgate is one of 922 places in Kent where we cater. You can also see our page for Canterbury, about 14 miles away.

Sugar Loaf Hill nearby makes a lovely backdrop for photos, and the countryside around Sandgate suits an outdoor reception. Guests coming by rail will want to know that the closest railway station is Folkestone West station, roughly 0.8 miles north-east of the centre. The Kent Downs National Landscape is within about 6 miles of Sandgate, with plenty of rural wedding settings. Check the cooking spot with the venue. With the coast within about 2 miles, many venues here have sea views. We will think about shelter from sea breezes.

Weddings anywhere in CT20 and CT50 start with an outdoor spot for the roaster. Streets in the area include East Road, Gough Road and Castle Road, and a wedding on any of them works with a garden, drive or yard for the roaster. About the food

Halloumi and vegetable skewers (V)

Not everyone eats meat, and halloumi skewers give them a proper hot option.

Spit-roast lamb

With lamb as well, there are two roasts to choose from, which works well for larger groups.

What affects the price in Sandgate

Things that change the price:

  • Time on site
  • Season and day of the week
  • Plates or china
  • Distance from us

Extras such as lamb, chicken, more sides or china crockery add to the cost, so we list each one in the quote. Keeping it simple keeps it affordable.

Details that help

We can quote more accurately with a few details. Here’s what to include:

  • Rough numbers
  • Which meats and sides you’d like
  • Allergies we should know about
  • The date and time of the event

Tell us your date, venue or postcode and roughly how many people, plus when you’d like to eat. We’ll check the date and send a quote. Fill in our quote form.

Sandgate: your questions answered

How far is Sandgate from London?

Roughly 61 miles from the centre of London.

Which station is closest to Sandgate?

Folkestone West station, about 0.8 miles north-east of the centre.

How much room do you need?

Roughly the footprint of a gazebo or two, on level ground, well clear of walls, tents and branches. We’ll check it with you before booking.

Is mains power needed?

The roaster runs on gas, so we don’t need mains power to cook. A socket nearby is useful for lighting.

Where do you cook at a marquee wedding?

We cook outside, never inside the marquee.

When should we book?

As early as you can for summer weekends and December. Quieter dates can often be booked at shorter notice. Send your date and we’ll check.

Do you serve the food?

We carve and serve for you, and we clear up when service is finished.

Can we just hire the roaster?

Yes, for confident cooks. We will explain the details with your quote.

Planning for dietary needs

Most people love a hog roast, but it’s pork. Some ways to look after everyone:

  • Halal isn’t offered, so plan separately if needed
  • Pass numbers for vegetarians and vegans to us
  • Give final numbers in good time
  • Ask for gluten-free rolls for coeliac guests

Give us your venue coordinator’s details, for access and timings.

Lamb alongside the pork gives guests a choice.

Planning the cooking spot

We need room to cook safely and under cover. Before booking, check:

  • Clear space away from the marquee and any branches
  • A serving area close to where guests eat
  • Light near the carving station after dark

If you’re unsure, send a picture of the space and the way in, and we will say what we think.

Popular choices

  • Hog roast rolls
  • Spit-roast lamb
  • Rotisserie chicken
  • Crackling
  • New potatoes
  • Stuffing and apple sauce
  • Salads
  • Vegan option (Ve)
  • Halloumi skewers (V)
  • Roast or jacket potatoes

What happens on the day

Service is quick once we start carving: the chef carves and the team serves, and sides go out at the same time. When everyone has eaten, we clear up and leave the spot tidy. In Sandgate, midsummer sunset is about 9:15pm, and by late September it’s nearer 7:00pm, so evening food is often carved in daylight in June and July. For autumn and winter weddings, when it’s dark by about 3:50pm in December, plan lighting at the carving station.

  1. Send us the date, venue and guest numbers.
  2. We confirm the date and the venue and send a price.
  3. We fit timings around your running order.
  4. The hog roasts through the afternoon; our chef carves on cue.
  5. Our staff serve and clear, then we leave quietly.

How to prepare

  • Name a contact for the day
  • Plan a step-free way in for the equipment
  • Give us final numbers a week or so before

DIY versus a catered hog roast

Full catering or machine hire? With catering, our chef roasts, carves and serves, and our staff clear up. With DIY hire, you do the work and save on staffing.

You could roast a hog yourself, but it’s a long day’s work, from setting up and lighting the roaster to carving. With us catering, you get to be a host, not a cook.

For event organisers in Sandgate

Booking for a club or group? One clear contact makes everything easier, particularly when timings shift.

Organisers may ask for documents such as a risk assessment or gas safety information. Tell us what you need and we’ll confirm what we can provide.

A hog roast or other catering?

If your venue does its own catering, check whether you can bring in a hog roast. There may be a fee. UK price guides vary widely: roughly £10 a head for a simple roll, rising past £20 with more included. We quote every event individually, so you know exactly what you are paying for.

Why book with us

  • Halloumi skewers and a vegan option too
  • All the equipment comes with us
  • Served at the time you choose
  • Carved by our chef in front of your guests

Take a look at how we price and the cost guide.

  • Roasted on site for several hours, outdoors under cover
  • Carved to order by our chef, with stuffing, apple sauce and crackling
  • Options beyond pork, including lamb, chicken and vegetarian dishes
  • Served when you’re ready, and we tidy the serving area afterwards
