How our wedding hog roast works in City of London

As a main meal, the hog roast is served on plates: carved pork with salads, new potatoes or roast potatoes, on china if you’d like. Whether it’s evening food after the first dance and small, informal weddings, we will put together a menu of new potatoes, salads and carved roast pork for your guests.

In City of London, venues set rules on outside caterers and gas cooking. Ask about a courtyard or garden, and we will agree the details with them. Our chef carves in front of your guests, so every roll gets hot pork and a piece of crackling, and nothing sits in a hot cabinet.

FAQs for City of London

Can you cater after a service at St Olave Old Jewry?

Yes, at a nearby hall, home or venue with room to cook outside. Churches rarely have space for a hog roast, so the food is generally elsewhere. Send us the address.

What if our house in City of London has no side access?

It depends on access: a rear gate or yard usually works. Tell us about steps, gates and parking and we’ll advise.

Is mains power needed?

The roaster runs on gas, so we don’t need mains power to cook. A socket nearby is useful for lighting.

Do you do evening food?

Of course. We’ll time it around your first dance and band.

How big a hog will we need?

The roast is chosen to suit how many you are feeding, so a good estimate matters. The quote sets it out.

Is crockery included?

Plates come as standard. If you’d like china, ask and we’ll add it to the quote.

Can you be flexible on serving time?

Because the roast takes hours, we plan from your serving time, and a cooked roast can be held for a while if things run late.

Can we offer lamb too?

Add lamb or rotisserie chicken alongside the hog.

Prices and what affects them

Each price is built from:

  • Plates or china
  • The number of people
  • The serving time and how long we’re on site
  • The menu and extras such as lamb or chicken

UK price guides vary widely: roughly £10 a head for a simple roll, rising past £20 with more included. Every event gets its own quote, so you know exactly what you’re paying for.

Getting an accurate quote

When you enquire, it helps to include:

  • The venue or postcode
  • Any venue rules
  • Allergies we should know about
  • What the outdoor space is like

It’s easy to get a price: date, place, numbers and serving time. We will reply with a clear price and what’s included. Use our quote form.

If you’re hoping for photos in St Alphage Garden, check whether the park needs permission for photography or gatherings.

Looking after everyone

A hog roast is pork, so plan for anyone who doesn’t eat it. Some ways to look after everyone:

  • Halal is not offered, so plan separately if needed
  • Give us vegetarian and vegan numbers
  • Collect dietary needs with RSVPs
  • Give final numbers in good time

We will be at the venue for most of the day, working quietly in the background.

China crockery can be added for the wedding breakfast, as an extra.

Why choose a hog roast in City of London?

Compared with a barbecue, one roast feeds all your guests together without batches coming off a grill. Distance is part of the price: travel is included in your quote, with any London charges listed. Give us the address for an accurate figure.

Why City of London hosts choose us

  • Fresh carving at the serving station
  • Sides to make it a full meal
  • Rolls with stuffing, apple sauce and crackling
  • Slow-roasted at your venue, not reheated

Read our prices page or what a hog roast costs.

Full catering or machine hire?

Some hosts try a barbecue instead, but someone ends up cooking in batches all afternoon. A hog roast cooks in one go and is carved for everyone.

We also hire out the hog roast machine for confident cooks. You do the roasting and carving; we will confirm what comes with it when you ask.

Working with your venue

Booking for a club or group? A single point of contact keeps things simple, especially on the day.

For events on land you don’t own, such as a park or field, you will need the landowner’s permission for cooking and vehicles. Sort that first.

The process

It is a relaxed, well-organised set-up. Arrival and serving times are agreed beforehand, set up where we have agreed, and get on with roasting and serving. In City of London, midsummer sunset is about 9:20pm, and by late September it is nearer 7:05pm, so evening food is often carved in daylight in June and July. For autumn and winter weddings, when it’s dark by about 3:55pm in December, plan lighting at the carving station.

  1. Send us the date, venue and guest numbers.
  2. We check the venue’s rules and the date, then quote.
  3. We fit timings around your running order.
  4. We roast during the day, then carve at the agreed time.
  5. We serve, tidy up and slip away.

How to prepare

  • Give us final numbers a week or so before
  • Gather dietary requirements early
  • Let us know about tight access
