Wedding hog roast for Cogges

Wedding hog roast in Cogges, slow-roasted on site

A slow roast suits a wedding day that runs late: it can be held for a while once cooked, so a long speech won’t ruin the food. For barn and farm weddings and post-wedding gatherings, we’ll put together a menu of spit-roast lamb, carved roast pork and crackling and more.

Weddings in a place like Cogges often feel personal: a local church, then a marquee in a garden or field. The roaster cooks a safe distance from the marquee. Tell us about access to the field or garden. The carving happens right in front of your guests, so every roll gets hot pork and a piece of crackling.

Should I cook it myself?

You could go for a cold buffet, but hot, freshly carved roast pork is a different experience.

Timing is the tricky part of roasting your own: a big roast takes hours and must be cooked thoroughly. If you’d rather not worry about it, let us cook.

The process

A hog roast is always cooked outside, under a gazebo on level ground, well clear of walls, tents and trees. We’ll agree the spot with you beforehand. Evening food at a Cogges wedding frequently goes out just as the light fades: about 9:30pm at midsummer, 9:00pm in late May and 7:10pm in late September. Festoon lights by the carving station look lovely in the photos.

  1. You tell us your date, venue, numbers and whether it’s the wedding breakfast, the evening or both.
  2. You get a check on the date and venue, and a quote.
  3. Timings and the cooking spot are agreed with you and the venue coordinator.
  4. We cook through the day and serve right on cue.
  5. We clear away once everyone has eaten.

Before we arrive

  • Confirm numbers ahead of the day
  • Choose someone to meet us on arrival
  • Make sure the cooking area is away from walls, tents and trees

Cogges: your questions answered

Which station is closest to Cogges?

The closest is Finstock station, roughly 4.8 miles away.

Can you cater after a service at Church of St Mary?

Yes, at a nearby hall, home or venue with room to cook outside. Food is typically served at the reception venue rather than the church. Tell us where you’ll gather.

Can you be flexible on serving time?

We will be as flexible as we can. Keep us posted on the day and we’ll fit around changes.

What happens after service?

Our staff clear the serving area, and we take our equipment with us.

How big a hog will we need?

We plan quantities from the numbers you give us, and we will talk it through when we quote.

Do you do evening food?

It’s one of our most popular wedding bookings. Rolls with stuffing, apple sauce and crackling go down well after dancing.

What happens in bad weather?

We roast under cover, so the food isn’t affected. Your guests will want somewhere dry to eat.

Where does the hog roast go?

A level, open area outdoors with room for the roaster, a gazebo and a carving table, away from buildings, marquee walls and overhanging trees. We will confirm the space with your quote.

Roast pork

Everything starts with the slow-roasted pork: carved in front of you, a mix of shoulder and leg, straight from the roaster.

Crackling

Crackling takes hours to get right, and a whole hog roasted slowly gets it just right.
