A hog roast near Forton

Wedding hog roast in Forton, slow-roasted on site

Evening wedding food has one job: feed hungry dancers. Hog roast rolls with stuffing, apple sauce and crackling do exactly that, and they’re easy to eat with a drink in hand. We’re frequently asked to cater wedding breakfasts and second-day get-togethers, serving carved roast pork, halloumi skewers and salads.

For a smaller place like Forton, a garden or farm wedding is often the dream. We need a level spot and access. We bring the roaster, the cover and everything we need to cook and serve, and we leave the spot tidy when we go.

The process

The roaster cooks outdoors, on a level, open spot under cover, away from buildings, marquee walls and overhanging branches. We’ll agree the spot with you beforehand. At midsummer, sunset in Forton is about 9:20pm, so we can time the carving before or after your sunset photos. In late May, sunset is about 8:55pm, and in late September about 7:10pm.

  1. You tell us your date, venue, numbers and whether it is the wedding breakfast, the evening or both.
  2. We check the venue’s rules and the date, then send a quote.
  3. We agree arrival, cooking spot and serving times with you and your venue.
  4. We roast during the ceremony and drinks, then carve at the agreed time.
  5. Afterwards we tidy our area and leave you to the party.

Preparing for the day

  • Check there is nothing overhead or close by that could catch the heat
  • Make sure we can wheel the roaster to the spot
  • Measure the narrowest gate or passage

Can we have both pork and lamb?

Lamb and chicken are both available alongside the hog.

Will guests be full?

We’ll plan quantities from your numbers, and the quote lists everything.

Is a hog roast OK for a sit-down meal?

It works well as a relaxed main meal, with lamb, chicken and vegetarian options alongside.

Do you do evening food?

It is one of our most popular wedding bookings. Hot pork rolls are perfect late in the evening.

What happens after service?

We pack everything away after service, so you are not left with the mess.

Is crockery included?

We supply plates as standard. You can upgrade to china if you prefer.

Looking after everyone

Some guests won’t eat pork, so it’s worth adding an alternative. Helpful tips:

  • Pass numbers for vegetarians and vegans to us
  • Request gluten-free rolls if needed
  • Give final numbers in good time
  • Note which guests do not eat pork, for lamb, chicken or a vegetarian choice

We will liaise with your venue coordinator, for access and timings.

Some couples add lights around the serving area; tell your venue or marquee supplier.

Full catering or machine hire?

Some hosts try a barbecue instead, but someone has to stand at the grill all day. With a hog roast, one roast feeds everyone at once.

You could roast a hog yourself, but it is a long day’s work, from early set-up to carving at the end. A catered hog roast means you can enjoy the day.
