Wedding hog roast for Greatness
About our wedding hog roast in Greatness
We look after guests who do not eat pork: lamb, chicken, halloumi skewers or a vegan burger or sausage. Halal meat isn’t available. Typical bookings include the day after the wedding and rustic barn receptions, with salads, halloumi skewers and carved roast pork.
Weddings in a place like Greatness often feel personal: a local church, then a marquee in a garden or field. The roaster cooks a safe distance from the marquee. Let us know about access. We plan the timings around your day, because the roast has to start hours before you eat.
Diets, allergies and alternatives
A little planning helps everyone eat safely. A few tips:
- Share the menu with your venue coordinator
- Note which guests do not eat pork, for lamb, chicken or a vegetarian choice
- Halal isn’t offered, so plan separately if needed
- Put a dietary question on the invitation
If speeches overrun or the band starts late, we adjust. Your coordinator can keep us posted.
Gluten-free rolls can be provided for the evening food.
Why a carved hog roast beats a buffet
Next to other evening food, a hog roast serves a crowd quickly once carving starts. Midweek and quieter months are often easier to book, and the menu you choose makes a difference too. Ask us and we’ll suggest the best fit for your budget.
Why Greatness hosts choose us
- Carved by our chef in front of your guests
- Our staff serve and clear
- Halloumi skewers and a vegan option too
- Served at the time you choose

The process
We get there well ahead of service, since slow roasting cannot be rushed. Your guests will smell it long before they see it. In Greatness, midsummer sunset is about 9:20pm, and by late September it’s nearer 7:05pm, which means an evening hog roast is usually served in daylight in high summer. For autumn and winter weddings, when it’s dark by about 3:55pm in December, plan lighting at the carving station.
- Share your date, venue, numbers and which meal you’d like.
- You get a check on the date and venue, and a quote.
- We agree arrival, cooking spot and serving times with you and your venue.
- The hog roasts through the afternoon, and our chef carves on cue.
- Afterwards we tidy our area and leave you to the party.
Preparing for the day
- Confirm numbers ahead of the day
- Ask about allergies and dietary needs beforehand
- Keep the spot clear of buildings, marquee walls and overhanging branches

Planning the cooking spot
Planning the cooking spot is the key. Check these:
- A way in for the roaster
- Lighting for evening service
- Serving inside the marquee or barn if allowed
If in doubt, send us a picture of the spot and we’ll advise before you book.
From the roaster
- Rotisserie chicken
- Salads
- Roast or jacket potatoes
- Spit-roast lamb
- New potatoes
- Halloumi skewers (V)
- Hog roast rolls
- Crackling
- Stuffing and apple sauce
- Vegan option (Ve)
Prices and what affects them
We work out each quote from:
- Plates or china
- How many people are eating
- Distance from us
- How easy it is to reach the spot
For larger numbers, a hog roast is normally good value, because one whole roast feeds a lot of people. Extras, china and longer service add to it.
Details that help
For a quick, accurate price, tell us:
- The date and when you’d like to eat
- Where the roaster could go, ideally with a picture
- Rules from the venue or landowner
- Dietary requirements
Tell us your date, venue or postcode and roughly how many people, along with your serving time. We will confirm availability and send a price. Use our quote form.

Greatness questions
Can you do a hog roast in Montreal Park?
Only with permission from the park’s owner, usually the council, and many parks don’t allow cooking. Ask them first.
Do you cater at venues in the Kent Downs National Landscape?
Yes, though some venues in protected landscapes have extra rules for caterers; ask your venue. We will work to whatever the site needs.
Do you bring plates?
We bring plates as standard. If you’d like china, ask and we’ll add it to the quote.
When do you start roasting?
Hours rather than minutes. You will know our arrival time in advance.
Will guests be full?
Quantities are based on your guest list, and the quote lists everything.
Is there a non-pork option?
The menu has lamb, chicken, vegetarian and vegan options. We do not provide halal meat.
Do you serve the food?
You don’t need anyone else: we carve, serve and tidy up.
How big a hog will we need?
The roast is chosen to suit how many you are feeding, so tell us your best estimate. We’ll confirm the menu in the quote.

What we serve, dish by dish
Roast pork
Everything starts with the slow-roasted pork: carved in front of you, a mix of shoulder and leg, straight from the roaster.
Crackling
Crackling is what people queue for: crisp, golden and full of flavour, straight off the hog.
Organising for someone else?
If you are booking for a workplace, ask your facilities team about outside caterers and gas cooking. We work to the site’s rules.
If you are a venue or event planner, we are happy to work alongside your team.
Should I cook it myself?
You could roast a hog yourself, but it’s a long day’s work, from early set-up to carving at the end. A catered hog roast means you can enjoy the day.
Buying in a cold buffet is another option, but nothing beats hot pork and crackling carved in front of you, especially outdoors.
- Roasted slowly at your venue, outdoors and under cover
- Our chef carves the pork, with stuffing, apple sauce and crackling on the side
- Lamb, chicken and vegetarian options alongside the pork
- Our team serves at your chosen time and clears up afterwards
