Wedding hog roast for Hareplain

Wedding hog roast in Hareplain, slow-roasted on site

The carving station becomes a focal point: guests gather, the chef carves and the crackling disappears fast. It is food and a bit of theatre. We are often asked to cater home weddings and small, informal weddings, with salads, crackling and carved roast pork.

There’s something special about a country wedding near Hareplain, and slow-roasted pork carved for guests adds to it. Plan firm ground and a route for our vehicle. Plates come as standard, and china crockery is available on request, quoted separately.

Questions from Hareplain

What’s the nearest station to Hareplain?

The closest is Headcorn station, roughly 2.8 miles away.

How far is Hareplain from London?

About 40 miles from central London, and well within our area.

How much room do you need?

Enough level ground outdoors for the roaster and a serving table under cover, and a way to wheel everything in. Send us a picture if you are unsure.

Can you be flexible on serving time?

Within reason, we can. Keep us posted on the day and we’ll fit around changes.

Can a hog roast be our wedding breakfast?

Of course: carved pork on plates with sides, with our staff serving.

Will there be enough to go round?

Quantities are based on your numbers, and we’ll confirm everything in writing.

How do we prepare?

The agreed cooking area, access for our equipment and someone to meet us. We bring everything else.

Can the hog roast be cooked indoors?

It cooks outside, under a gazebo, on a level spot. The food can be carried in and served indoors where the venue allows.

The process

The secret is time: the meat cooks gently until it’s tender while the skin turns into crackling. Then it rests briefly before our chef carves. For a summer wedding in Hareplain, the sun sets at about 9:15pm in late June and about 7:00pm in late September, so evening food is often carved in daylight in June and July. Later in the year, plan lighting: in December it is dark by about 3:50pm.

  1. You tell us your date, venue, numbers and whether it is the wedding breakfast, the evening or both.
  2. You get a check on the date and venue, and a quote.
  3. We agree arrival, cooking spot and serving times with you and your venue.
  4. We roast during the ceremony and drinks, then carve at the agreed time.
  5. Afterwards we tidy our area and leave you to the party.

Getting ready for the day

  • Gather dietary requirements early
  • Plan somewhere sheltered for people to eat if it rains
  • Plan a step-free way in for the equipment

Full catering or machine hire?

You could go for a cold buffet, but nothing beats hot pork and crackling carved in front of you, especially outdoors.

Some hosts try a barbecue instead, but someone has to stand at the grill all day. With a hog roast, one roast feeds everyone at once.
