Questions from Iden
We’re gathering after a service at The Parish Church of All Saints: can you cater?
Yes, at a nearby hall, home or venue with room to cook outside. Churches rarely have space for a hog roast, so the food is normally elsewhere. Tell us where you’ll gather.
How far is Iden from London?
About 51 miles from central London, and well within our area.
Can you roast in the rain?
We cook under a gazebo, so rain is not a problem for the roast. A marquee, hall or barn for eating makes all the difference.
What about guests who do not eat pork?
Add lamb, chicken, halloumi and vegetable skewers or a vegan option. Please note we don’t offer halal meat.
Do you need power or water?
Not to cook, because the roaster is gas-fired. Let us know what’s on site.
Do we need extra food?
Quantities are based on your guest list, and we will confirm it in writing.
How much does a hog roast cost?
It depends on numbers, the menu and how long we are on site. Send us the details and we’ll quote.
Can you cook inside the marquee?
Always outside, away from the marquee walls. We can serve inside the marquee if the supplier agrees.
The process
Service is quick once we start carving: the chef carves and the team serves, and sides go out at the same time. When everyone has eaten, we clear up and leave the spot tidy. At midsummer, sunset in Iden is about 9:15pm, which helps us time evening food around your photos. In late May, sunset is about 8:45pm, and in late September about 7:00pm.
- Tell us whether it’s the wedding breakfast, the evening or both.
- We send a quote with the menu and staffing.
- The venue and we agree where the roaster goes.
- We set up and roast for hours.
- We carve and serve, then clear away.
Preparing for the day
- Tell us about narrow gates or side passages
- Make sure we can wheel the roaster to the spot
- Ensure the cooking area is away from walls, tents and trees

The menu, dish by dish
Salads, potatoes and coleslaw
Crunchy coleslaw suits roast pork, and salads and new potatoes work well on a plate.
Halloumi and vegetable skewers (V)
For vegetarians, halloumi and vegetable skewers are cooked separately from the meat, a hot, filling option of their own.
Is a hog roast right for your wedding?
Compared with pizza or other evening vans, carving serves a lot of people fast. Numbers make the biggest difference: bigger groups usually cost less per head, because the roaster, staff and travel cost much the same either way.
