What a hog roast costs

Each booking is quoted on its own, and the price depends on a few things:

  • Time on site
  • The number of people
  • Plates or china
  • Which meats and sides you choose

Numbers make the biggest difference: the price per head typically falls as numbers rise, since much of the cost is fixed.

How our wedding hog roast works in Lane End

As a main meal, the hog roast is served on plates: roast pork, crackling and a choice of sides, on china if you’d like. On the menu are new potatoes, spit-roast lamb and halloumi skewers, and typical bookings are for evening receptions and weddings in a marquee.

There is something special about a country wedding near Lane End, and slow-roasted pork carved for guests adds to it. Plan firm ground and a route for our vehicle. Everything is cooked on the day, at your venue, low and slow, for hours, then carved fresh for your guests.

What we serve, dish by dish

Spit-roast lamb

Spit-roast lamb is popular alongside the pork, especially for guests who do not eat pork.

Halloumi and vegetable skewers (V)

Some guests will be vegetarian, and halloumi skewers give them a proper hot option.

Why a carved hog roast beats a buffet

Compared with a barbecue, a hog roast feeds everyone at once from one roast. Most of the cost is the meat, the staff and the time on site. A long, slow roast means an early start, which is built into the price.

What you get with us

  • The classics: stuffing, apple sauce and crackling
  • Carved by our chef in front of your guests
  • Slow-roasted at your venue, not reheated
  • We bring everything to cook and serve

How it works

We work to your timings. If things run late, we can hold the cooked roast for a while before carving, so tell us as soon as plans change. For a summer wedding in Lane End, the sun sets at about 9:25pm in late June and about 7:10pm in late September, which means an evening hog roast is typically served in daylight in high summer. Later in the year, plan lighting: in December it is dark by about 4:00pm.

  1. Send us the date, venue and guest numbers.
  2. We confirm the date and the venue and send a price.
  3. We fit timings around your running order.
  4. We roast during the day, then carve at the agreed time.
  5. Our staff serve and clear, then we leave quietly.

Preparing for the day

  • Plan somewhere sheltered for people to eat if it rains
  • Give us a contact number for the day
  • Measure the narrowest gate or passage

Planning for dietary needs

Allergies and dietary needs are easy to manage if we know in advance. Some ideas:

  • Pass numbers for vegetarians and vegans to us
  • Note which guests do not eat pork, so we can add lamb, chicken or vegetarian options
  • If any guests need halal food, arrange it separately
  • Remember that stuffing normally contains gluten, so check the allergen list

We’ll be at the venue for most of the day, out of the way, by the cooking area.

Gluten-free rolls can be provided for the evening food.

What the cooking area needs

We need room to cook safely and under cover. Things to check:

  • Step-free access for our equipment
  • Power for lights in the evening
  • A serving area close to where guests eat

Not sure about the cooking spot? Send us a photo and we will tell you honestly before you book.
