About our wedding hog roast in Lodge Lees

Couples book a hog roast for the main meal, the evening or both. We roast at the venue through the ceremony and drinks, and our chef carves on cue. Popular choices include carved roast pork, new potatoes and halloumi skewers, and we are regularly asked to cater vow renewals and blessings and wedding breakfasts with sides.

Near Lodge Lees, weddings are often in fields, barns or gardens. A hog roast is made for that: no kitchen needed, just an outdoor cooking spot. Let us know about access and ground. We plan the timings around your day, because the roast has to start hours before you eat, so the food is ready at the right moment.

Lodge Lees: your questions answered

Could you cook in Jumping Downs?

Only if the landowner, usually the council, allows it. Check with them first, and tell us what they say.

We are gathering after a service at Church of St Mary Magdalene: can you cater?

Yes, at a home, hall or venue nearby with an outdoor spot for the roaster. Food is generally served at the reception venue rather than the church. Tell us where you will gather.

Do you come to Lodge Lees?

Yes. We cater across London and the South East, Lodge Lees and the rest of Kent included. Send us the address for a quote.

Do you bring plates?

Plates are included. China is available at an extra cost.

Can a hog roast be our wedding breakfast?

It works well as a relaxed main meal, with alternatives for non-pork eaters.

Can you be flexible on serving time?

We’ll be as flexible as we can. Give us a contact on the day and we’ll fit around changes.

Is mains power needed?

Cooking is gas-fired, so no mains power is needed for the roast. A socket nearby is useful for lighting.

What comes with the hog roast?

Pork, stuffing, apple sauce and crackling in a soft roll. Your quote lists any sides and extras.

Organising for someone else?

Venues often have rules for outside caterers, from approved lists to where a gas roaster can go. Check early, and tell us what they ask for.

Event organisers frequently ask caterers for paperwork such as a risk assessment. Tell us what you need and we will confirm what we can provide.

Catered or do it yourself?

You could roast a hog yourself, but it’s a long day’s work, from setting up and lighting the roaster to carving. A catered hog roast means you can enjoy the day.

A barbecue is the other obvious choice, but someone has to stand at the grill all day. A hog roast cooks in one go and is carved for everyone.

How the day works

On the day, we set up the roaster on the agreed spot, put the cover up and start the roast. It then roasts slowly for several hours, worked back from your serving time. In Lodge Lees, midsummer sunset is about 9:15pm, and by late September it is nearer 7:00pm, which means an evening hog roast is normally served in daylight in high summer. Later in the year, plan lighting: in December it is dark by about 3:50pm.

  1. Tell us your date, venue and numbers.
  2. We confirm the date and the venue and send a price.
  3. We fit timings around your running order.
  4. We roast during the day, then carve at the agreed time.
  5. Our staff serve and clear, then we leave quietly.

Before we arrive

  • Choose a level, open spot outdoors for the roaster
  • Ensure we can wheel the roaster to the spot
  • Tell us about narrow gates or side passages

Why a carved hog roast beats a buffet

Compared with pizza or other evening vans, carving serves a lot of people fast. When comparing prices, compare the same things: menu, sides, serving time, staff, plates and travel. The cheapest quote isn’t always the best value.

Why us?

  • Slow-roasted at your venue, not reheated
  • Halloumi skewers and a vegan option too
  • Sides to make it a full meal
  • Self-contained: roaster, cover and serving kit

Planning for dietary needs

Most people love a hog roast, but it’s pork. Some ways to look after everyone:

  • Pass numbers for vegetarians and vegans to us
  • Halal isn’t offered, so plan separately if needed
  • Ask for gluten-free rolls for coeliac guests
  • Remember that stuffing typically contains gluten, so check the allergen list

Give us your venue coordinator’s details, so we can sort the cooking spot and timings with them.

Lamb alongside the pork gives guests a choice.

What a hog roast costs

A few things make the biggest difference to the price:

  • Plates or china
  • Access to the cooking area
  • Which meats and sides you choose
  • Distance from us

What you pay covers the meat, the chef and staff, and hours of roasting. Slow roasting means we’re on site for much of the day, and the quote reflects that.

What we need to know

Good details mean a good quote. Useful details:

  • Roughly how many people
  • The address or postcode
  • Rules from the venue or landowner
  • Any extras, such as lamb, chicken or china

For a quote, send us a few details: the date and serving time, the venue or CT4 postcode, rough numbers and which extras you’d like. Fill in our quote form.
