Working with your venue

If you are booking for a workplace, ask your facilities team about outside caterers and gas cooking. We will fit in with site rules.

Wedding hog roast near Shelvin

For the wedding breakfast, a hog roast becomes a plated meal: roast pork, crackling and a choice of sides, on china if you’d like. Whether it’s home weddings and the main wedding meal, we can cook rotisserie chicken, crackling and halloumi skewers and more.

Rural weddings around Shelvin have a magic of their own, and slow-roasted pork carved for guests adds to it. Plan a firm route in, especially if it rains. The hog is roasted on site at your wedding, low and slow, for hours.

The process

Slow roasting is the whole point: the meat cooks gently until it’s tender while the skin turns into crackling. Then it rests briefly before our chef carves. In Shelvin, evening wedding food often coincides with dusk: sunset is around 8:45pm in late May, 9:15pm at midsummer and 7:00pm in late September. A few lights by the serving table help guests and photos alike.

  1. Send us the date, venue and guest numbers.
  2. We check the venue’s rules and the date, then quote.
  3. We agree timings with your venue coordinator.
  4. We roast during the day, then carve at the agreed time.
  5. We serve, tidy up and slip away.

What comes off the roaster

Stuffing and apple sauce

No hog roast roll is complete without sage and onion stuffing and apple sauce, cutting through the richness of the pork.

Spit-roast lamb

Spit-roast lamb is popular alongside the pork, especially for guests who don’t eat pork.

FAQs for Shelvin

Do you come out to small places like Shelvin?

Not at all. We cater in villages and hamlets as well as towns. Let us know about access and the cooking spot.

Do you cater at venues in the Kent Downs National Landscape?

Yes, though some venues in protected landscapes have extra rules for caterers; ask your venue. We will work to whatever the site needs.

Do we need to provide electricity?

Cooking is gas-fired, so no mains power is needed for the roast. A socket nearby is useful for lighting.

Can the hog roast be cooked indoors?

Outside, always. The food can be carried in and served indoors where the venue allows.

How do you work out quantities?

Quantities are based on your numbers, and we will confirm everything in writing.

What space does the roaster need?

Enough level ground outdoors for the roaster and a serving table under cover, plus a step-free route to wheel the equipment in. Send us a picture if you’re unsure.

Can we add a second roast?

Lamb and chicken are both available as a second option.

When do you start roasting?

Hours rather than minutes. We’ll confirm our arrival time when we quote.

Planning for dietary needs

We give full allergen information for every dish. To help:

  • Halal is not offered, so plan separately if needed
  • Ask for gluten-free rolls for coeliac guests
  • Give your coordinator the final menu
  • Stuffing normally contains gluten, so check the allergen list

Give us your venue coordinator’s details, for access and timings.
