Planning for dietary needs

Rolls and stuffing usually contain gluten, so ask for gluten-free rolls if you need them. A few more tips:

  • Collect dietary needs with RSVPs
  • Stuffing normally contains gluten
  • Give us vegetarian and vegan numbers
  • If any guests need halal food, arrange it separately

You won’t have to think about the food. We roast through the afternoon and carve at the agreed time.

Add spit-roast lamb for a second roast.

Wedding hog roast near Lower Twydall

We look after guests who don’t eat pork: spit-roast lamb, rotisserie chicken, halloumi and vegetable skewers and a vegan option. We do not offer halal meat. We are often asked to cater wedding breakfasts with sides and small, informal weddings, with halloumi skewers, new potatoes and crackling.

A wedding in a small place like Lower Twydall often means a field, a barn or a family garden. A hog roast is made for that: no kitchen needed, just an outdoor cooking spot. Let us know about access and ground. We plan the timings around your day, because the roast has to start hours before you eat, so the food is ready at the right moment.

Choosing a hog roast caterer

A hog roast or other catering?

Next to a formal three-course meal, a hog roast is more relaxed and often better value. It still feels like a feast. UK price guides vary widely: roughly £10 a head for a simple roll, rising past £20 with more included. We quote every event individually, so you know exactly what you are paying for.

Why book with us

  • Choices for people who do not eat pork
  • A clear quote with everything listed
  • Salads, potatoes and coleslaw to go with it
  • Serving and clearing done for you

Take a look at our prices page or the cost guide.

A closer look at the menu

Spit-roast lamb

Lamb on the spit roasts gently for hours, carved to order at the serving station, frequently with mint sauce.

Rolls and gluten-free rolls

We can serve in rolls or on plates, and gluten-free rolls are available on request.

What a hog roast costs

The biggest factors are:

  • Whether you want china
  • Menu choices and extras
  • Busy dates such as summer Saturdays
  • Site access

A hog roast is often good value for a crowd, since one roast goes a long way. Extras, china and longer service add to it.

If you are unsure, send a picture of the space and the way in, and we will say what we think before booking.

Organising for someone else?

For workplace bookings, ask your facilities team about outside caterers and gas cooking. We will fit in with site rules.

If you are organising for someone else, such as a wedding planner, an office manager or a fête committee, tell us who our contact on the day will be. We will keep everyone in the loop.

The process

Service is quick once we start carving: our chef carves and our staff fill the rolls or plates, and sides go out at the same time. When everyone has eaten, we clear up and leave the spot tidy. For a summer wedding in Lower Twydall, the sun sets at about 9:20pm in late June and about 7:00pm in late September, so evening food is often carved in daylight in June and July. Later in the year, plan lighting: in December it’s dark by about 3:50pm.

  1. Tell us whether it is the wedding breakfast, the evening or both.
  2. We send a quote with the menu and staffing.
  3. We confirm the cooking spot and access with the venue.
  4. We arrive early and roast slowly on site.
  5. We carve and serve, then clear away.

How to prepare

  • Choose someone to meet us on arrival
  • Keep the spot clear of buildings, marquee walls and overhanging branches
  • Have a covered area for eating in case of rain
